Sandia National Laboratories Systems Research Analyst (Experienced) Located Huntsville, Alabama in Unidentified, New Mexico


We are seeking an R&D, Systems Research Analyst that will be supporting the (SNL) vehicle prototyping effort at the Missile Defense Agency (MDA), located at Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, Alabama.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

  • Support dynamic tasking by the government (primarily MDA Targets and Countermeasures Program Managers) in support and development of a new target vehicle prototype for MDA.
  • Aid development of a prototype program and technology strategies for next generation vehicles.
  • Lead and assist management of SNL for MDA.
  • Act as a conduit of information and tasking between MDA and SNL.
  • Collaborate with other organizations within MDA and other FFRDC’s and UARC’s.

This position requires the ability to live and work in the Huntsville, AL area and the ability to travel to SNL (Albuquerque, NM) and other domestic partner organizations several times per year and occasionally MDA test locations (Kauai, HI, Kodiak, AK) as needed (every few years).


  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant STEM discipline and a Master’s or PhD in a related science and engineering field applicable to MDA mission needs (Mechanical, Aerospace, Electrical, Physics)
  • 5 or more years of experience working on aerospace systems
  • Technical or programmatic leadership experience on flight test vehicles
  • Active DoD Top Secret or DOE Q-clearance (and ability to maintain a DOE Q-clearance)


  • 10 or more years of experience working on aerospace systems, particularly in a prototyping environment.
  • 5 or more years of experience working with MDA.
  • Understanding of MDA business process for the development of target vehicles.

Department Description:

The Advanced Threat Defeat group defines and realizes complex target vehicles for the Missile Defense Agency based on emerging threat data. The vehicles are engineered to exercise the capabilities of our nation's Ballistic Missile Defense System. The department also conceptualizes and studies mechanisms for hypersonic weapon defeat.
