NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs:

If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.

Salary Range:

$88,600 - $172,300 *Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate¿s experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

What Your Job Will Be Like:

We are seeking a Test Operations Engineer

Tonopah Test Range seeks a Test Operations Engineer to join a multidisciplinary team that designs, develops, and executes testing various ballistic systems and equipment at a remote site and often under extreme/hazardous conditions. This activity work includes compliance and assurance testing, air-to-ground and ground-to-ground explosives asset, and explosive component testing. The ideal candidate will be expected to coordinate with the site manager and/or senior staff to develop, integrate, and execute test plans, logistics, field activities, and facilities capabilities to ensure customer requirements are met successfully. Responsibilities also include planning and coordinating/directing recovery activities of deeply buried test assets and coordinate related packaging and shipping activities. Other duties include supporting tactical day-to-day operational and technical issues to ensure all problems are expeditiously and safely resolved.

You will work with a dynamic group of field test support personnel to ensure the successful completion of the Laboratories flight test mission. Members of this team are responsible to the Range Manager for activities that ensures the Range is ready to meet all testing assignments. All team members are expected to assume numerous roles and be willing to perform an operational role during test activities. Each team member is responsible for following established range processes and procedures to ensure that all compliance requirements regarding the operation, facilities and infrastructure are met with quality. Incorporation of all corporate safety and work planning processes are inherent in this activity. Applicants must have the ability to work independently and as well as part of a team. Must be capable of and demonstrate behaviors that reflect Sandia's core values.

On any given day you may be called upon:

  • To assist the range manager, operations lead, test directors, and other key range personnel with planning, coordination, and execution of flight test events and recoveries

  • To plan, coordinate, organize projects that support testing activities to enable the range to meet the assigned test schedule

  • Prepare documentation to plan/execute work under strict work planning and controls procedures and applicable safety guidelines

  • To work with internal and external customers to ensure logistics for range sustainment, readiness, and associated test activities are properly planned in accordance with the range’s procedures and safety guidelines

  • To perform pre- and post-test duties as required to provide for ready analysis, monitor test preparations to ensure completeness, perform briefings as needed, ensure completion of post-test deliverables, and coordinate logistical and operational efforts with the O&M sub-contractor.

  • Interface with new and existing customers to understand and implement operational requirements and to tailor test preparations to support mission requirements.

Qualifications We Require:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or industrial operations, project management, safety, security, or other relevant discipline. Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered in lieu of some education credentials but is not guaranteed.

  • Ability to report as scheduled for work either directly to TTR outside of Tonopah, NV, or to a commuter vehicle in Las Vegas, NV for transport to TTR. Living in the Las Vegas metro area or near Tonopah is simplest but not required.

  • Must be willing to work a compressed 3-day schedule (14hr/14hr/12hr) or 4-day schedule (4 x 10hrs) while staying on-range during that time.

  • Minimum four (4) years of directly relevant operational experience with integrated test teams, including detailed test planning and execution procedures and processes, training materials, and operational checklists.

  • Minimum two (2) years of demonstrated experience with integrating test equipment, multi-spectrum sensors, and data capture equipment.

Qualifications We Desire:

  • Direct work experience in military aviation and/or flight test operations

  • Advanced degree (Master’s or PhD) in relevant or STEM field of study

  • Familiarity and/or experience with working within a test operations team in a remote/austere field working environment.

  • Experience with test support equipment and related systems

  • Knowledge of test asset recovery operations

  • Working knowledge with DOE and/or DoD safety/security procedures

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to mentor and train others on equipment and procedures as needed

  • Ability to prepare complex systems or equipment to perform tests and generate reports.

About Our Team:

Department 7235 is charged with the operation of the Tonopah Test Range. The Range team is responsible for planning and executing the Flight Test portion of the Stockpile Surveillance program. Additionally, a requirement exists to plan and execute tests in support of other Federal Agencies.

Security Clearance:
