NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs:

If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.

Salary Range:

$88,600 - $172,300

*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

What Your Job Will Be Like:

We are seeking a highly motivated Environment, Safety, and Health (ES&H) Coordinator with experience implementing ES&H requirements and working in a complex technical environment. You will play a key role as you help build a strong and healthy safety culture at the Labs. You will be responsible for performing a variety of environmental, safety, and occupational health related functions. This is a fast-paced and dynamic job that offers a great deal of ES&H project diversity.

This position will support day-to-day remote site operations at the Tonopah Test Range (TTR), which is located 4 hours from Las Vegas, Nevada. This is the primary work location, and teleworking is not possible in this position. The typical work week is either a compressed week (Tues-Thurs, 14-14-12 hours/day) or a 4/10 work week (Mon-Thurs, 10-10-10-10 hours/day). Deviations to this normal schedule may occur to facilitate mission requirements. Owing to the remoteness of the site and the length of the workdays, most employees remain on-site and stay in dormitories for the entire work week.

TTR is responsible for the technical operations associated with the nuclear weapons flight test mission and the maintenance of a large integrated test range facility. The Range utilizes an instrumentation suite of precision tracking radars, telemetry ground stations, optical tracking mounts, meteorological data systems and numerous pieces of support, test, and communications equipment.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

  • Perform regular facility and work area walk-throughs, inspections, and work planning and control (WP&C) reviews to determine reliability and effectiveness of risk mitigations.

  • Demonstrate strong customer-oriented mindset and approach.

  • Help customers understand and comply with applicable ES&H facility, operations, data collection, and reporting requirements.

  • Provide direct ES&H support for TTR and for the organizations within the Nuclear Deterrence Complex who have mission work at TTR.

  • Contribute to Labs-wide ES&H initiatives.

  • Perform oversight of work planning for activity-level work in high-consequence operations involving energetic, chemical, electrical, radiological, and mechanical hazards.

  • Perform daily field observations and safety briefings.

You must have the willingness and ability to reside close enough to make the work departure time (Tonopah or Las Vegas, NV are common residences) andthe ability and willingness to reside on-site in a remote location up to (4) days and (3) nights per week, with the ability to work modified schedules as mission requirements dictate.

This position is eligible for special salary differential pay.

Qualifications We Require:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline plus five (5) or more years of experience, or equivalent of education and/or experience.

  • Experience recognizing, evaluating, and controlling hazards.

  • Experience in regulatory compliance and with regulations and requirements (e.g., OSHA, NFPA, ANSI, DOE).

  • The ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (PowerPoint, Excel, Word) and the ability to quickly learn and use a variety of ES&H tools.

Qualifications We Desire:

  • Master’s degree in a relevant discipline.

  • Professional certification in a relevant discipline (e.g., Certified Safety Professional, Certified Industrial Hygienist).

  • Experience working in complex technical R&D environments where multiple hazards are present (energetic, chemical, electrical, construction, radiological, and mechanical).

  • Previous experience at a DOE or Research and Development (R&D) facility.

  • Excellent verbal, written, and planning skills.

  • Proven ability to meet and adapt to changing deadlines and priorities.

  • Previous experience as an ES&H professional.

  • Ability to team with all Center personnel in complex and sometimes stressful work conditions.

  • Ability to track actions items, provide presentations and training to all levels of staff and management, and lead projects.

  • Must be able to apply strong organizational, interpersonal, and communications skills working with a diverse team ranging from skilled laborers to engineers/scientists and executive management.

  • Comfort in a training environment.

Department 00634 provides ES&H coordinator support to Divisions 03, 2000, 3000, 7000, 9000, and 11000. The goal of this organization is to effectively integrate safety into daily operations. Department personnel support and facilitate the implementation of ES&H requirements and processes and assist in the identification and analysis of any hazards, threats and risks which may create an unsafe worksite. We collaborate with ES&H subject matter experts to translate corporate policy requirements into line implementation plans and to formulate engineering and administrative controls to mitigate hazards, threats and risks. The department also supports assurance activities through self-assessments, causal analysis, and performance monitoring. Our approach is positive, proactive, and encompasses the life cycle of operational activities. The end goal is to enable line management to execute mission objectives while balancing the needs for operational excellence.

Security Clearance:
