We are seeking an experienced, hard-working Project Controller for our Weapons Subsystems project management team who can implement and improve project controls and services for their Weapons Subsystems matrixed partners.

Are you passionate about cost analysis, scheduling, and teaming with technical partners? You would join our dynamic and multi-disciplinary team to use your experience to analyze budget and schedule impacts, generate reports, and provide forward-looking recommendations to the project management team and matrixed partner leadership.

In this role, you will be responsible for developing analysis and reporting associated with various project controls job duties, such as project baseline, work package agreements, scheduling, cost control, cost estimation, earned value management (EVM), projections, variance analysis, project/program/portfolio integration, and/or technical project reviews.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

  • Partner with staff, project leads and managers to make recommendations to influence key decision makers within the scope of project controls (work breakdown structure, schedule, and budget/cost).

  • Plan, monitor, control, and report on project cost, schedule, and scope.

  • Represent the company externally with sponsors and vendors.

  • Resolve policy or contracting issues affecting program success.

  • Manage communication to/from program and project stakeholders.

  • Ensure that all work scope is identified, defined, and appropriately managed.

  • Maintain data integrity of program information.

  • Support all internal and external reviews, assessments, and audits.

  • Ensure timely generation, collection, dissemination, storage, and disposition of project artifacts.

  • Analyze schedules or earned value reports and provide feedback to Product Realization Teams (PRTs).

  • Mentor and coach other team members.

  • Review quality of schedules and look for gaps or logic breaks.

  • Review change proposals, ensuring that all changes are documented via the appropriate change control process and accurately assessed for impact.


  • Bachelor's degree in Business or other relevant field plus 5 or more years of relevant experience (such as experience in Project Controls); or Master’s degree in relevant field plus 1 or more years of demonstrated experience in Project Controls.

  • Experience with a major scheduling tool, such as Primavera P6.

  • Active U.S. DOE Q security clearance or equivalent.


  • Ability to work with management at all levels.

  • Knowledge of the Nuclear Weapons complex and product realization process.

  • Experience working with the Department of Energy, the National Nuclear Security Administration, or the Department of Defense.

  • Project management education and certification(s).

  • Experience with Earned Value Management principles and methodology.

  • Proficiency in tools and applications commonly employed in project management activities.

  • Demonstrated teaming skills, including the ability to work effectively with other organizations, project sponsors and customers, and suppliers.

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate well and partner with management, customers and stakeholders, and science and engineering technical management and staff

  • Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills

  • Experience with Earned Value Management principles and methodology, including experience using Primavera P6 and COBRA, or other Earned Value engine(s).

Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q security clearance to start, or equivalent active security clearance with another U.S. government agency (e.g., DOD). Sandia is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants for employment need to be able to maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship.
