NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs:

If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.

If you have a MedPED and you are selected for an on-site interview at Sandia National Laboratories, there may be additional steps necessary to ensure compliance with NNSA security requirements prior to the interview date.

Salary Range:

$116,600 - $229,500

*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

What Your Job Will Be Like:

We are seeking an outstanding Systems Engineer with a background in mechanical or electrical engineering, or related discipline to join the diverse and growing W80-4 Warhead Modernization Program!

Do you love the mission at Sandia but want to try something new? The systems engineering position within the W80-4 program is results-oriented, rigorous, dynamic, and requires a multidisciplinary perspective with an innate curiosity to learn outside of your existing knowledge base. Having strong communication skills is a critical element within this position due to the collaborative nature of this role. We work closely with our internal and external partners to mature and execute the nuclear weapon system requirements, architecture, design, and qualification activities. Our systems teams are responsible for integration of each component into a complex system and for providing sound technical justification for all decisions.

On any given day you may be called on to:

  • Collaborate alongside with the program test engineers; ensure a consistent quality approach is realized from start to finish of each assembly

  • Certify that assembly and test procedures are at standards by integrating directly in the development process

  • Provide oversight, verifying the procedures are followed and any issues are addressed in accordance with quality guidelines

  • Collate all documentation in a standard report to be given to the customer

  • Capture all lessons learned and promulgate to the proper stakeholders to prevent recurrence and facilitate future builds

  • Support lead systems engineers to develop system level design concepts, architecture, and physical layout

  • Review system for integration compatibility and compliance

  • Perform system/subsystem trade studies balancing performance, costs, risks, materials, functionalities, and technology maturation

  • Prepare presentations and other supporting documentation needed for technical reviews

  • Review and approve simulation results with respect to performance requirements

Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite 100% of the time at the Livermore, CA site.

Qualifications We Require:

  • Bachelor’s degree Mechanical, Electrical, or Systems Engineering or related field plus five (5) years’ experience; or Master’s degree in related field plus one (1) year experience; or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform independent research and development

  • Academic or job experiences in areas such as: engineering design, qualification, production, or related modeling/simulation projects

  • Ability to travel up to 25%

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance

Qualifications We Desire:

  • Experience with development of specifications for components and systems

  • Experience working on engineering design, qualification, production, or related modeling/simulation projects

  • Familiarity with modeling tools and/or computer aided design tools - Creo/ProE, SolidWorks etc.

  • Experience with Earned Value Management

  • Outstanding verbal and written skills, including the ability to develop and present briefings that are clear and compelling

  • Experience in a leadership role

  • Ability to thrive in a high-energy, dynamic, collaborative, team focused environment

About Our Team:

Organization 8264 is part of the California team leading the W80-4 LEP. This department is responsible for the W80-4 Hardware Management & Assembly operations in CA, and for developing and maintaining the Electrical Functional Test and Environmental Testing capabilities in the SNL/CA site. This department is also responsible for managing building 942.
