About Our Team:

The W80 Systems Engineering Department has stockpile stewardship responsibility for the W80 and W84 warheads. The W80-0,1 is the warhead for the Navy Tomahawk and the Air Force's ALCM cruise missiles. The President's Annual Assessment Report drives Sandia to increase yearly its technical basis of the safety and reliability of the warhead. Specifically the team is focused on understanding the "design margin" of the fielded weapon through driving the system to failure. This knowledge is used to adjust annual surveillance activities. Through these efforts we are breaking new ground in our knowledge of the weapon, and focusing this knowledge to critically evaluate the performance of the weapon.
