Sandia National Laboratories Strategic Planner - Facilities (Mid-Career) in Livermore, California

We are looking for a dedicated and energetic individual to join our Facilities Management team. We have opportunities in several areas of our organization including engineering, operations, planning, and project management. Our fast paced, National Laboratory setting necessitates that the candidate have the ability to deal with ambiguity and variability of assignment and accept the value of being in a service group. We seek a well-rounded individual, adept at problem solving in a variety of settings.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

  • Lead and coordinate a broad set of priority initiatives spanning project development, physical campus planning and management, infrastructure and investment planning, facilities operations, and project and construction management

  • Lead and integrate project teams across a number of functions and subject areas

  • Assess building and site infrastructure issues, conceptualize potential solutions, make recommendations, and develop project plans

  • Create long-term capital improvement plans and develop project concepts for building and site systems

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Architecture plus minimum five years of relevant experience in planning, execution, and/or operations

  • Proven record of successful delivery of complex, large-scale projects with numerous partners from concept through design and construction

  • Experience with project management approaches, tools, and all phases of the project lifecycle

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance


  • Advanced engineering or architecture degree

  • Professional Engineer or Registered Architect license in the State of California or ability to obtain certification within one year of hire

  • PMP certification from the Project Management Institute

  • Ability to translate vision into robust action plans and follow through to completion

  • Proven leadership and the ability to coordinate teams across subject areas

  • Willingness to be held accountable for overall project and team results

  • The ability to exercise initiative, as well as the acuity to manage and complete multiple priorities

  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including the ability to interact effectively with multiple levels of management

  • Flexible, adaptable, resilient, and tenacious with a propensity to persevere; able to work in ambiguous situations

  • Knowledge and experience with International, National, and California Building Codes

  • Knowledge and experience in facilities design, construction, and O&M industry best practices and standards

    Department Description:

The Partnership and Planning Department supports the mission by establishing long range planning & investment strategies and implementation plans. The team develops and maintains effective strategic customer partnerships and integrates F&I plans into the investment and planning strategies. The team also provides space management, condition, and energy assessments of the facilities and site infrastructure.

Security Clearance:
