NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs:
If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.
If you have a MedPED and you are selected for an on-site interview at Sandia National Laboratories, there may be additional steps necessary to ensure compliance with NNSA security requirements prior to the interview date.
Salary Range:
$100,900 - $195,400
*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.
What Your Job Will Be Like:
The W87-0 Sentinel Integration program is seeking R&D Systems Engineers to join our multidisciplinary teams performing critical work advancing the safety, security, and reliability of our nation’s nuclear deterrents! Our teams are designing and building a suite of Joint Environmental Test Units and Joint Test Assemblies to enable W87-0 integration on the Air Force’s Sentinel missile. This is a highly collaborative work environment where successful candidates will be involved in design maturation, hardware assembly, qualification testing, production activities, and flight testing. On any given day, you may be called on to:
Develop detailed understanding of customer requirements and ensure maturation of requirements for specific systems aspects or components
Collaborate with system engineers and component engineers, and provide technical guidance on critical design elements
Work hand in hand on integration activities with various systems engineers and product realization teams
Perform technical analyses and trade studies to inform risk-based decisions while balancing programmatic cost and schedule constraints
Plan and execute laboratory tests and field exercises
Develop systems level understanding of collected data and support anomaly resolution
Present to diverse audiences at technical design reviews and programmatic meetings
Represent Sandia on multi-organizational project teams (i.e. NNSA, DoD, LLNL, SNL)
Qualifications We Require:
Master’s degree in an engineering or science discipline; or Bachelor’s degree in an engineering or science discipline with at least 4 years of relevant experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience
Experience working on engineering design, qualification, or production projects
Possess expertise in one or more of the following areas: developing requirements and concepts of operation; performing trade studies; leading system design activities; performing project management; generating technical documentation; developing and testing prototype systems; analyzing test data; troubleshooting prototype electronics; qualifying systems; identifying failure modes and performing failure analysis; or overseeing production activities
Willingness and ability to travel up to 25%
Ability to obtain a U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance
Qualifications We Desire:
Experience working with DOE, NNSA, DoD, or Federally Funded Research and Development Centers
Experience in Nuclear Deterrence or the Nuclear Security Enterprise
Strong communication skills, including ability to present to large and diverse audiences
Active DOE Q or DoD TS security clearance

The W87-0 Sentinel System Integration team’s mission is to certify the W87-0 warhead for first flight on the Air Force’s Sentinel missile. Activities include creating a Joint Environmental Test Unit to provide environmental data from Sentinel test flights and developing Joint Test Assembly (JTA) 4b to certify the weapon system for operational use.
