Sandia National Laboratories R&D S&E, Systems Engineer (Experienced) in Livermore, California
California Stockpile Systems is seeking an Electrical, Mechanical, Aerospace, or Systems Engineer to contribute to new projects and ongoing operations. Engineers will assist with day-to-day operations, trouble-shooting, and problem-solving with multidisciplinary teams across the Nuclear Security Enterprise; develop new assessment technology to deepen our understanding of safety and security performance; and interact closely with the National Nuclear Security Administration and the Department of Defense to ensure that their needs are addressed.
Requires a bachelor’s degree in relevant STEM discipline (Electrical, Mechanical, Aerospace Engineering or related technical field) plus five or more years of experience, or equivalent:
- higher degree (MS, PhD) in relevant discipline; or
- engineering or scientific experience and/or achievements that demonstrate the knowledge, skills and ability to perform independent research and development
- Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. DOE Q security clearance.
Experience working with DOE, NNSA, DOD, or Federally Funded Research and Development Centers; current DOE Q-level security clearance or equivalent; systems engineering experience; project management experience; or mechanical engineering skills, such as computer aided design, structural dynamics, vibration characterization, structural analysis, heat transfer analysis, laboratory measurement techniques and diagnostics, computational simulation and modeling, integration of subsystems, fabrication of prototypes, and/or conductance of qualification tests.
California Stockpile Systems is responsible for the stewardship of nuclear deterrence systems developed in the Livermore Valley. Through a robust program of scientific inquiry, a multidisciplinary engineering team is responsible for leading sustainment and assessment activities to ensure the safety, security, and reliability of the stockpile. Stockpile Systems strives yearly to increase the quality and depth of its technical basis used to evaluate the system’s state of health, which culminates in an Annual Assessment Report sent to the President of the United States.
