What Your Job Will Be Like:

We are seeking a R&D Physics research staff member (job title: R&D S&E, Physics) to join our department!

You will be a member of Sandia’s team working on plasma diagnostics and boundary physics within the Experimental Science and Operations groups at DIII-D and will coordinate fusion related material testing on DIII-D with Sandia fusion energy researchers at Sandia’s Livermore, CA, and Albuquerque, NM, sites.

Sandia's fusion energy program is involved in the study of the critical boundary physics of the tokamak scrape-off-layer and divertor, including the optimization of plasma performance using advanced divertor structures and boundary control techniques, and the interactions of the boundary particle flux and heat flux with plasma facing materials. Your primary duty will be to maintain the operation of existing edge diagnostics and to install new diagnostics, including arrays of edge-mounted Langmuir probes, fast thermocouples, and H-microsensors for measuring charge-exchange neutrals. A broad research community of DIII-D scientists and collaborators around the world utilize this facility and add to the rich working environment at DIII-D.
