Sandia National Laboratories R&D Mechanical Engineer in Livermore, California

We are looking for a Mechanical Engineer (R&D Mechanical Engineer) to work in a collaborative environment with a multidisciplinary design team for a current life extension program (LEP) effort. This specific role will require you to be agile, with each day bringing new challenges.
On any given day, you may be called on to:
Design and/or own key components
Interface with our systems customer on verification activities
Review and release drawings
Work with our production counterparts on fabrication challenges
Collaborate with our manufacturing lab or our modeling and simulation team
Support qualification and test activities
Document and defend design decisions at programmatic reviews
Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or relevant discipline with at least 3 years’ experience; or Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineer or relevant discipline and 7 years’ of experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience
Ability to obtain a DOE Q security clearance
MS in mechanical, materials, or aeronautical engineering
Experience with composite material design and/or manufacture
Strong communication skills
Experience with product design and development
Experience taking a product from prototype to production
Experience in a production-like environment
Environmental test experience, including writing test plans, setting up data acquisition systems, analyzing data etc.
Experience coordinating multiple stakeholders (e.g. hardware, test facilities, customer etc)
Experience with CREO/ProEngineer
Experience creating and reviewing mechanical drawings
GD&T knowledge and practical experience including tolerance analyses
