NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs:

If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.

If you have a MedPED and you are selected for an on-site interview at Sandia National Laboratories, there may be additional steps necessary to ensure compliance with NNSA security requirements prior to the interview date.

Salary Range:

$158,000 - $268,600

*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

Do you want to have a real, tangible, impact in national security by leading stewardship of high consequence capabilities that directly support the warfighter?

We are seeking a mission-driven department manager (Manager, R&D Science and Engineering) to lead our Special Programs I Department (8771). You will take on a broad range of responsibilities, from programmatic leadership to personnel and technical management in support of national security missions that are the nexus between systems engineering and high consequence software development and operational excellence.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

  • Programmatically lead the “W Portfolio” of activities within the Space Mission Program’s Strategic Reconnaissance and Secure Communications Program Office (SRSCPO).

  • Lead teams of multi-disciplinary system, software, and operational engineers that develop and sustain high consequence software solutions.

  • Help your team anticipate mission risk, develop and execute on plans for addressing those challenges.

  • Ensure that internal and external customer needs are satisfied by managing and coordinating specific deliverables, overall program and project plans, budgets, structures, schedules, and staffing requirements.

  • Partner with peers across the Laboratory (particularly in New Mexico) on related efforts to ensure a consistent message to common customers and stakeholders.

  • Lead SRSCPO’s configuration management, delivery management, and overall continuous improvement business processes to result in enhanced mission impact while reducing execution complexity and churn.

  • Provide an enriching and supportive environment for members of the workforce that fosters teamwork and career development. Leverage that perspective in stewarding our High Security Spaces, in partnership with security organizations, to advocate and deliver on innovations.

  • Partner within the group, center, Space Mission Program, and Laboratory to ensure we are bringing the best Sandia can offer to the missions we steward.

    Additional responsibilities of the Special Programs I Manager include:

  • Manage the day-to-day operational, technical, and administrative responsibilities of the department.

  • Coordinate subordinate employee recruitment, selection, training, performance assessment, work assignments, salary, and recognition and disciplinary actions.

  • Provide oversight of security and need-to-know management procedures.

  • Assure program execution (department-level program budgets, staffing, and work) and addressing performance and execution gaps.

  • Understand the department’s technical work and advocate strongly, both internally and externally.

  • Oversee work that is rooted in the fundamentals of science and engineering and requires a deep understanding of engineering and scientific principles.

    Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite in Livermore, CA.

Qualifications We Require:

  • Master's degree in relevant STEM subject area plus 4 years’ relevant experience; or a Bachelor’s degree in relevant STEM subject area plus 8 years’ relevant experience

  • Ability to travel regularly

  • Ability to obtain U.S. Department of Energy Q and Other Government Agency (OGA) security clearances including SSBI for this position. In order to obtain these clearances, U.S. Citizenship and polygraphs are required.

Qualifications We Desire:

  • Advanced degree in engineering, computer science, or information technology

  • Experience working in a classified environment

  • Demonstrated leadership and teaming in a complex, fast paced environment

  • Ability to communicate well, including creating and presenting briefings

  • Previous engineering experience in a product delivery or production environment

  • Ability to model behaviors that reflect Sandia's core values

  • Ability to create trust-based relationships to ensure customer needs are satisfied

  • Experience working with DOE and OGA customers and communities

  • A minimum of two years of demonstrated leadership experience

  • Current DOE Q and SCI security clearances or DoD SCI equivalent

Our Strategic Reconnaissance and Secure Communications Program Office (SRSCPO) is primarily based at the California site. We develop and deploy software applications that integrate into active operating systems to sustain the movement of information, spanning a variety of networks and platforms, and providing 24/7 situational awareness for national security.

We contribute to the development of information for application to Sandia’s Space Mission Program and a suite of portfolios. Security Clearance:

Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications.
