We are seeking R&D Cybersecurity Engineers to join our organization! We are a unique multidisciplinary team committed to solving the information security challenges facing our nation. As a champion for Sandia’s cyber experimentation R&D team, you will engage as a programmatic and technical professional to advance cyber experimentation through innovative research and development.

To support Sandia's national security missions, our cybersecurity scientists and engineers engage in a variety of research areas including:

  • Cloud Infrastructure security

  • Virtualization and Hypervisor security

  • Mobile and embedded device security

  • Communications infrastructure security (5G, Software defined networking, Wireless)

  • Software and binary analysis and understanding

  • Automated software analysis techniques (fuzzing, symbolic execution)

  • Malware analysis

  • Modeling, simulation, and emulation

  • Research-based experimental design and analysis

  • Programmatic development across national security partners and government agencies

  • Cyber data analysis and automation (Data Science, Machine Learning)

  • Differential Privacy

  • Threat intelligence

    The selected applicant can be a virtual worker located in any U.S. State or District of Columbia. Regular or periodic travel to your assigned work location may be required.

    Required:

  • Bachelor's degree with at least three (3) years of experience or Master’s degree in academic fields in or related to Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Cyber Security

  • Software development and algorithm design skills in C/C++, Java, Python, or Assembly

  • Experience with research design and experimental rigor

  • Ability to travel to Livermore, California (about 10%)

  • Ability to hold DOE Q security clearance

    Desired:

  • Master's degree(s) in Computer Science/Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Information Systems, Computer Forensics, or Mathematics or related field

  • Well-developed leadership skills with the ability to prioritize and execute in a well-adapted and focused manner

  • Strong oral and written communication skills, ability to explain complex ideas clearly and concisely as well as how experience has shaped your abilities

  • Experience conducting research resulting in creative technical solutions

  • Experience with one or more of the following: network design, implementation, administration, database systems, web servers, application servers, firewalls, network devices, data science/analytics, virtualization, hypervisors, mobile and embedded systems, large scale model environments, network architectures, commercial and private cloud platforms, malware analysis, symbolic execution

  • Experience auditing code in C/C++, Java, Python, assembly, or other languages

  • Strong analytical skills; creativity and innovative problem-solving skills

  • Familiarity with secure-system design principles and information assurance principles

  • Active DOE or DOD clearance

The Information Security Sciences group (8760) currently focuses on three major areas of research and development: malware characterization and software understanding (8764); cyber research for emerging technologies (8765), and secure cloud computing (8767). With a history of applying research to solve real world homeland security problems, we develop techniques and technologies for preventing disruption and enhancing recovery in vital high-consequence cyber and critical infrastructure systems. In addition, we are actively engaged in cyber internship programs that prepare students to enter the FFRDC workforce and provide a recruiting pipeline for the Sandia cyber mission area.

Security Clearance:
