  • Serve as the Program Lead for physical and technical security systems at the SNL/CA site in Livermore, CA.

Job Summary

Provides and implements system and technology solutions to specific security concerns. Plans, coordinates, installs, upgrades, and converts or services physical security systems and equipment. Performs quantitative and qualitative threat, vulnerability, and risk analyses.

Primary Job Duties

Plans and recommends electronic and physical security systems and service requirements for the site to ensure appropriate protection of security assets and compliance with U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) directives. Coordinates, installs, upgrades, and converts or services alarm systems, access controls, video cameras, vault-type room protection, and all other types of physical security equipment. Performs quantitative and qualitative threat, vulnerability, and risk analyses in accordance with DOE directives. Defines security system standards, policies, required upgrades, maintenance, and day-to-day management of all security systems through system integrators or internal resources. Ensures the viability of all electronic security systems, whether legacy or new, to minimize business disruption caused by failed or improperly configured systems. Implements technology solutions aligned with Sandia security strategies and budget guidelines. Maintains an in-depth knowledge of state-of-the-art security equipment standards and technology, encompassing all physical security products. Provides system solutions to specific security concerns identified by customer requests and security audits. Develops and maintains operational processes to ensure that security standards are maintained. Develops and administers processes for audits, assessments, and performance testing of all physical security systems and programs. Acts as a site contact for emergency security system issues. Provides product research, feasibility studies, project planning, tracking, and quality assurance and overall vendor communication and management.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Demonstrated ability to manage multiple, competing priorities. Knowledge of and experience working with information technology security applications and practices. Knowledge of and experience with one or more major security area, including classified matter protection and control, information security, physical security, or computer security. Knowledge and experience with security functions that require extensive documentation and data management. Ability to conceptualize and communicate major elements of security to both technical and nontechnical personnel. Ability to prepare and present security reports. Knowledge of Sandia's security policies, practices, and procedures.

Required:

Bachelor's degree in relevant discipline plus five or more years of experience; or master's degree in relevant discipline plus two or more years of relevant experience; or doctorate in relevant discipline; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Desired:

Experience working as a security professional at a DOE or DOD facility with knowledge in physical and technical security systems. Technical security experience that includes designing security systems, advanced knowledge of computers and serving in the role of a system administrator. Experience working in a classified environment that includes vault type rooms and other secured areas. Experience understanding and implementing DOE/NNSA orders, requirements and regulations.

Sandia Security Operations (SECOPS) protects people and assets to ensure mission success. SECOPS has responsibility for Physical Security, Classification, Classified Matter Protection and Control (CMPC), Operations Security (OPSEC), Security Awareness, the Security Incident Management Program (SIMP) and Emergency Management. SECOPS oversees Site Visitor Control and manages a 24/7 Protective Force.

Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) granted Q-level security clearance.

Sandia is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment drug testing, and a pre-employment background review that includes personal reference checks, law enforcement record and credit checks, and employment and education verifications.
