NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs:
If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.
If you have a MedPED and you are selected for an on-site interview at Sandia National Laboratories, there may be additional steps necessary to ensure compliance with NNSA security requirements prior to the interview date.
$100,900 - $195,400
*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.
What Your Job Will Be Like:
We are seeking an engineer to join our Handling and Test Gear (H&T-Gear) Engineering Group (8447)! Our team develops and maintains Handling and Test Gear for DoD use in the field. The ideal candidate will have experience designing, building and testing mechanical hardware and can expect to work with a team of engineers to take designs from idea through production.
On any given day, you may be called on to:
Design a critical piece of H or T gear
Build prototypes of your designs
Review and redline drawings
Develop and execute tests to verify your designs
Resolve production challenges
Partner with engineers at Sandia and across the complex to ensure the success of the project
Qualifications We Require:
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Aeronautical Engineering
Hands on design and/or manufacturing internship or extracurricular activity (e.g. Labs, clubs etc)
Ability to travel up to 25%
Ability to obtain a Q-Clearance and Sigma 15 access
Qualifications We Desire:
MS in mechanical/aeronautical and/or BS in electrical engineering
Experience designing mechanical hardware, including machined and/or welded assemblies, fixtures, tooling, handling gear etc.
Experience with computer aided design tools (Creo/ProE, SolidWorks etc.)
Experience getting hardware manufactured and working through production challenges
Experience building and assembling hardware you designed
3-5 years relevant work experience
Experience creating, interpreting, and reviewing drawings, including GD&T
Environmental testing experience (writing test plans, data acquisition, executing tests)
Familiarity with computational simulation and modeling tools
Excellent verbal and written skills, including the ability to develop and present briefings that are clear and compelling

Sandia/California's Handling Gear Engineering Department develops and supports advanced electronic and mechanical subsystems to support the Nuclear Weapons Program. Our group is responsible for handling gear, test gear, and weapon container development; certification; and stockpile support for all weapons in the nuclear stockpile.
