NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs:

If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.

If you have a MedPED and you are selected for an on-site interview at Sandia National Laboratories, there may be additional steps necessary to ensure compliance with NNSA security requirements prior to the interview date.

Salary Range:

$100,900 - $195,400

*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

What Your Job Will Be Like:

We are looking for a dedicated and hardworking individual to join our Facilities Management team as a Facilities Systems Electrical Engineer (job title: Electrical Engineer). Our fast paced, National Laboratory setting necessitates that the candidate be comfortable with ambiguity and variability of assignment and accept the value of being in a service group. We seek a well-rounded individual, adept at problem solving in a variety of settings.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

  • Understand the system’s purpose, design and configuration, overall condition assessment, modes and consequences to mission resulting from system failure, and define necessary actions to acquire, sustain (maintain, repair, rebuild, and recapitalize) and disposition the asset throughout its service life

  • Define the performance standards and risk management approaches, monitoring and maintenance plan, and a risk-informed list of projects to assure the system is available to support the mission

  • Ensure that the system will perform safely, predictably, reliably, cost effectively, and that the consequences of the system’s failure are mitigated

  • Own the relevant design standards, guide specifications, system architecture, review and application of new products/technologies, and project design requirements

  • Define the executable preventive/predictive maintenance activities and frequencies

  • Engage in design review of all projects affecting the system

  • Facilitate local stewardship group to proactively engage all facets of planning and operational input

Qualifications We Require:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or other relevant field plus five or more years of relevant experience

  • Experience performing designs or operating low voltage and medium voltage (1kV-15kV) distribution systems

  • Knowledge and understanding of current national electrical codes as well as State of California Building and energy efficiency codes

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance

Qualifications We Desire:

  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering

  • Professional Engineer license (PE) in the State of California or ability to obtain certification within one year of hire

  • Ability to think critically and make decisions requiring engineering judgment

  • In-depth knowledge and experience with California Building Codes (CBC)

  • Detailed knowledge of electrical industry and ability to produce specifications for bid purposes

  • Ability to interact effectively at all levels of the organization with both internal and external customers

  • Demonstrated leadership skills, including the ability to successfully plan, organize, lead, and monitor team efforts to completion

  • PMP certification from the Project Management Institute or demonstrated ability to manage projects from concept through design and construction

  • Experience with sustainable design and acquiring Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification

  • Knowledge / experience in facilities design, construction, and O&M industry best practices and standards

Security Clearance:
