NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs:

If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.

Salary Range:

$116,600 - $229,500 *Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate¿s experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

Experienced R&D systems engineers with an electrical engineering background will find many opportunities in our B83 Stockpile Systems Department.

Systems Engineers in this department contribute to new and ongoing operations. This group conducts annual assessment activities to assure that the systems continue to meet safety, security, and reliability requirements. Engineers will assist with day-to-day operations, trouble-shooting, and problem-solving with multidisciplinary teams across the Nuclear Security Enterprise; develop new assessment technology to deepen our understanding of safety and security performance; and interact closely with the National Nuclear Security Administration and other government agencies to ensure that their needs are addressed.

Systems Engineers in the B83 Department:

  • Specify and review activities that involve electrical aspects of the systems, including flight testing, lab testing, and component testing

  • Oversee, coordinate, and direct system level activities to obtain technical evidence for systems assessments

  • Support investigation and troubleshooting anomalies in cross-functional teams

  • Team with other design agencies to plan, execute, and analyze data from advanced experiments

  • Collaborate with production agencies and test laboratories to assess component and system performance

  • Identify and analyze potential technical and programmatic risks/opportunities; propose implementation actions and handling plans

  • Analyze electrical and electronic components including analog electronics, digital circuitry, electromechanical components, and electro-explosive devices

  • Provide technical review of procedures, process, and reports

  • Analyze system and subsystem architectures

  • Develop detailed understanding of requirements and ensure maturation of requirements for specific systems aspects or components

  • Integrate and test subassemblies

  • Plan and execute testing for environment and qualification

  • Present at technical design reviews and programmatic meetings

  • Represent Sandia on multi-organization project teams

  • Ability to travel (up to ~25%) to collaborate with external organizations and sites

Qualifications We Require:

  • Bachelor's degree plus 7 years of related experience, or Master’s degree plus 3 years related experience; or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Computer Engineering or related field, or equivalent combination of education and engineering or scientific experience and/or achievements that demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform independent research and development.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoE Q level security clearance

Qualifications We Desire:

  • Experience working with DOE, NNSA, DOD, or Federally Funded Research and Development Centers (FFDRCs)

  • Systems engineering experience

  • Project management experience in creating project plans and schedules to drive results

  • Electrical Engineering skills including design, development, qualification, production, or related modeling/simulation projects

  • Ability to exercise sound engineering judgment when less than ideal information is available

  • Ability to communicate technical and programmatic information effectively in oral and written forms

  • Ability to coordinate technical work performed in other internal and external organizations

  • Ability and desire to work in a collaborative team environment

The California Stockpile Systems Group has stockpile stewardship responsibility for fielded stockpile systems. Positions provide a Systems Engineering experience in a multidisciplinary working environment with engaging technical work for engineers of all specialties and levels. Through a robust program of scientific inquiry, a multidisciplinary engineering team is responsible for leading sustainment and assessment activities to ensure the safety and reliability of the stockpile. Stockpile Systems strives yearly to increase the quality and depth of its technical basis used to evaluate the system’s state of health, which provides the team opportunities to present to peers and leadership and culminates in an Annual Assessment Report sent to the President of the United States.

Security Clearance:
