NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs:
If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.
If you have a MedPED and you are selected for an on-site interview at Sandia National Laboratories, there may be additional steps necessary to ensure compliance with NNSA security requirements prior to the interview date.
Salary Range:
$116,600 - $229,500
*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.
What Your Job Will Be Like:
We are seeking a driven Electrical Hardware Engineer (R&D S&E, Electrical Engineer) to join our diverse and growing engineering teams. In this exciting and dynamic role, you may be performing a number of engineering functions, from crafting design concepts, to developing/testing actual prototypes, to guiding technology maturation efforts, and qualifying innovative fabrication and assembly techniques. You will be supporting engineering efforts across all phases of projects spanning from conceptual-design studies to full scale engineering.
On any given day, you may:
Design electronic Printed Wiring Boards and Printed Wiring Assemblies (PWA) including analog and digital circuit design
Conduct lab testing of electrical components, devices, subsystems and systems
Develop the architecture of higher-level electronic subsystems and systems; including integration and testing of multiple PWAs into a subassembly
Prepare and implement test planning, test execution, requirements derivation
Conduct environmental testing, qualification of development and production hardware
Participate in integration activities with other engineers and product realization teams
Provide technical consultancy on critical design elements
Present at technical design reviews
Represent Sandia on multi-organizational project teams
Along with fellow engineers, you will be engaging and collaborating regularly with personnel across multiple Sandia organizations, as well as Lawrence Livermore National Laboratories, Los Alamos National Laboratories, the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA), production agencies throughout the NNSA nuclear security enterprise, and Department of Defense organizations.
Qualifications We Require:
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or in a related field plus 6 years of related experience or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or in a related field plus 2 years related experience, or equivalent: engineering or scientific experience and/or achievements that demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform independent research and development
Demonstrated experience in design and test to include one or more of the following: analog and/or digital circuit design, embedded system design, and electromagnetic radiation (EMR) effects on electronics
Ability to travel up to 25%
Ability to acquire and maintain a U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance
Ability to work on-site 50%-100% of the time at the Livermore, CA facility
Qualifications We Desire:
Experience working on engineering design, testing, qualification, production, or related modeling/simulation projects
Experience with VHDL programming, test-benching, and debugging in a high-rigor environment.
Familiarity with development of specifications for electrical assemblies
Tools/Programs: C/C++, SPICE, LTSpice, MATLAB, LabVIEW, ModelSim, HDL, KiCAD, Expedition PCB, Oscilloscopes, Spectrum analyzers
Top-notch verbal and written skills, including the ability to develop and present briefings that are clear and compelling
Ability to thrive in a high-energy, collaborative, team focused environment
Currently holding an active security clearance; DOE Q-level or DOD TS.
About Our Team:
Sandia California's Telemetry and Stockpile Support Department develops and maintains telemetry systems in support of the nuclear deterrence surveillance mission. Telemetry systems has responsibility for all aspects of telemetry development, including conceptual design, prototype development and testing, and transitioning production work to DOE production agencies. Telemetry systems integrate precision sensor electronics and signal conditioning with RF communication systems to support flight testing of Joint Test Assemblies. Work is performed by teams of electrical engineers and mechanical engineers, in partnership with quality engineering, reliability engineering, and project management. Stockpile support oversees the quality, reliability, and availability of all qualified telemetry systems that are being used in the on-going surveillance mission.
