What Your Job Will Be Like:

We are seeking R&D Computer Scientists/Engineers who are interested in shaping the direction of parallel computing!

On any given day, staff in our department:

  • Engage with an agile team to research, design, and/or implement highly scalable concurrent runtimes and algorithms targeting emerging architectural platforms

  • Collaborate with diverse groups of domain experts to understand requirements, co-design/development of scalable computer systems, and/or applications

  • Develop fault diagnosis and recovery, risk mitigation, and co-design methods to improve the resilience of exascale and emerging platforms and applications experiencing hardware or software anomalies

  • Work closely with engineering analysis and software teams to ensure that the workflow infrastructure can support analysts developing credible models for ND impact

The selected applicant can be a virtual worker located in any U.S. State or District of Columbia. Regular or periodic travel to your assigned work location may be required.

Qualifications We Require:

  • Bachelor’s degree in STEM with a least five years’ experience; or Masters’ degree in STEM with at least one year of experience; or PhD in STEM; or 13 years of relevant engineering or scientific experience

  • Demonstrated proficiency with code development and software engineering

  • Ability to hold a U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance

Qualifications We Desire:

  • Demonstrated written- and verbal-communication skills

  • Ability to collaborate within a multidisciplinary research environment on problems in a variety of domains

  • Proficiency in solving problems, prioritizing work, and making decisions

  • Proficiency with high-performance computing platforms and tools

  • Experience with one or more of the following areas: delivering production software; object oriented programming in C#, Java, or C++; GUI development; simulation process and data management; agile software development methodology; version control systems; and/or detailing software requirements and design

  • Familiarity with the processes for obtaining and managing research funding, including building project teams, writing grants and progress reports, and working with sponsors

  • Evidence of professional service to the community, such as service on diversity and inclusion committees, program committees, workshop organization, and/or editorial work

About Our Team:

The Computer Sciences and Information Systems Center is the home of computer science and information systems work and capabilities at Sandia's California site. We have capabilities that span across multiple computer science and information systems disciplines. Our activities include computational science and mathematics research, high performance computing, visualization systems research and development, problem solving environments, information security research and operations, and network operations.

The Scalable Modeling and Analysis Department is home to a diverse community of researchers that leverage high-performance computing (HPC) technologies to solve challenging problems for multiple National Security mission partners. Researchers in this department are involved in a wide variety of projects, including accelerating scientific simulations with GPUs and asynchronous programming models; designing software that automatically dispatches parallel simulation and analysis tasks to different HPC platforms; tensor algorithm development; advanced architecture fault tolerance method development; architecture simulation software development and comparison of simulation results to real-world hardware measurements.

Security Clearance:

Individuals in LTE positions may bid on regular Sandia positions as internal candidates, and in some cases may be converted to regular career positions during their term if warranted by ongoing operational needs, continuing availability of funds, and satisfactory job performance.
