We are seeking a Z Operations Quality Systems Professional to join a team of scientists, engineers, technologists, and support staff contributing to the safe and efficient realization of scientific objectives on the Z Machine. While opportunities to engage in myriad challenges across Center 1600 exist, the principal focus areas of the selected individual will be the management and continued improvement in coordinating Z documents and procedures, as well as support for multiple operational improvement activities. This role requires collaborating with management and staff across 1600.
On any given day, you may be called on to:
Manage, plan, coordinate, and drive quality improvements for a large volume of Z documents and procedures being created and/or revised. This will require being the primary Point of Contact with 1600 management, engineers/scientists, technologists, training specialists, software developers, safety management SMEs, and Z’s team of Technical Writers.
Provide leadership for both strategic and tactical planning for new process, procedures, and systems. This requires working with teams of scientists, engineers, and technologists across a wide range of fields throughout 1600.
Lead efforts to improve management system quality by clearly defining and documenting the Roles and Responsibilities of the many jobs/positions throughout Z operations and planning.
Team with 1600 management and staff to develop, track, and analyze operational goals, metrics, and shot planning improvement activities to enable quality improvements and more efficient, scalable, and robust planning and execution of experiments at Z. This will include formal reporting on the status of these efforts.
Support the National Annual Z Shot Proposal Call working with 1600 management, staff, and external collaborators.
Construct and implement novel approaches and tools to challenges at Z by working with a diverse set of partners with significantly different backgrounds and competencies.
Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field
Five years’ professional experience
Experience supporting complex operations and/or activities
Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q clearance
Multidisciplinary technical and operations knowledge (e.g., physics, engineering, modeling and simulation, operational procedures, maintenance, etc.)
Knowledge of quality principles including change management and configuration management
Knowledge of project management practices for technical work including developing project plans and schedules; managing to scope, schedule and budget; ensure the meeting of technical requirements; and reporting and documenting results and outcomes
Experience working with teams of Technical Writers and managing document workflows; managing large numbers technical documents and procedures through development, quality improvements, revisions, reviews, assigned reading, etc.
Experience designing training systems/processes and coordinating training requirements and assignments
Knowledge of, or experience with, management structure design including accountability and authority structures, role design, segregation of duties, decision-making frameworks, quality management, etc.
Experience with Sandia operations and corporate management systems (e.g., ES&H, Work Planning and Controls, Safety Management Programs, Security, Contracting/Procurement, Governance, Laboratory Policy System)
Excellent speaking, writing, communication, and presentation skills
Current DOE Q Clearance
The department is a diverse, interdisciplinary team that develops strategic operational concepts and approaches for the Z Facility and other Pulsed Power facilities, as well as for new experimental facilities.
