NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs:

If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.

W88 Stockpile Systems Engineering team (Org. 7224) is seeking a highly motivated, experienced Electronics Technologist to perform hands-on technical projects for the W88 Stockpile Nuclear Weapon System.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

  • Use common hand tools to assemble, disassemble, maintain, and modify hardware.

  • Develop, calibrate, and troubleshoot complex electrical testers.

  • Develop, troubleshoot, maintain, and calibrate testers for testing nuclear weapon components.

  • Test components for surveillance activities.

  • Troubleshoot electrical/mechanical components, assemblies, and equipment.

  • Solder electrical components, cables, and/or circuits.

  • Perform physical equipment inventory & data entry into ARAS-based software applications.

  • Execute Classified Administrative Specialist duties for nuclear weapon-related hardware.

    Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant will be required to work onsite in Albuquerque, NM. Some travel may be required for this position.

Qualifications We Require:

  • Associate’s degree in a relevant STEM field; OR equivalent experience including demonstrated knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job.

  • 1-3 years of Nuclear Deterrence systems and/or component experience.

  • Experience working with mechanical & electrical hardware equipment.

  • Active DOE Q-level security clearance or DOD equivalent.

Qualifications We Desire:

  • Design, Development, Production, or Surveillance experience in an ND discipline area or closely related area (including ND Systems and/or Components).

  • Experience handling and working with classified materials and in classified environments.

  • Ability to obtain and properly use a SNL Procurement Card (P-Card).

  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).

  • Ability to execute activity-level work safely and securely in laboratory environments.

  • Demonstrated experience working in fast-paced, high-consequence environments.

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively work with technologists and staff in multidisciplinary teams.

  • Experience with inventory management and/or hardware tracking application(s) (e.g., ARAS).

  • Experience developing pieces of Sandia’s Work Planning & Controls processes.

  • Experience with LabView programming software.

  • Demonstrated ability to deliver results and effectively work in multidisciplinary teams.

About Our Team:

Department 7224 is entrusted with maintaining the integrity of the U.S. Navy’s W88/Mk5 nuclear weapon system, to help assure it remains safe, secure, reliable, and of the highest performance as a key component of U.S. strategic deterrent capability. A large part of our team activity is maintaining and extending the technical basis that underpins annual assessment of the system. Production activities for the W88 Alt 370 and W88 Alt 940 continue at the Kansas City National Security Campus, Los Alamos National Laboratory, Pantex, and Sandia National Laboratories, and require frequent communication with stakeholders in those organizations to keep production on track. The department leads robust efforts in developing and maintaining testers, managing field-return hardware and designing/assembling test bodies to support compatibility work with future missile delivery and over-the-road transportation platforms. We also interface with component, testing, computational simulation, and design definition organizations to manage schedule and budget associated with technical basis and compatibility assessment work.

Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q security clearance to start, or equivalent active security clearance with another U.S. government agency (e.g., DOD). Sandia is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications.
