We are seeking a highly motivated JTA Product Realization Team (PRT) Lead to join the W87-1 Joint Test Assembly (JTA) and Trainer Engineering Team in 2365. Along with fellow engineers, this role also involves engaging and collaborating regularly with personnel across multiple Sandia organizations, as well as Lawrence Livermore National Laboratories, the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA), production agencies throughout the NNSA nuclear security enterprise, and Department of Defense (DOD) organizations. This position is located at our Albuquerque, NM location.
On any given day, as a JTA PRT Lead, you will:
Brief PRT progress, deliverables, and challenges to SNL Management, NNSA, and USAF.
Lead interdisciplinary teams in solving high-profile technical challenges .
Lead test planning activities, coordinate with test facilities, and execute complex system level environmental and functional tests.
Perform system design, troubleshooting, and anomaly resolution.
Analyze test data and system performance against design requirements.
Critical thinking skills are applied to design JTA systems to integrate components developed in other Orgs into the JTA system designs.
Collaborate with various systems teams to perform system integration tasks and work towards issue resolution and risk reduction.
Author documents, procedures, and requirements for subsystem and system-level deliverables .
Interact with partner organizations within Sandia and across the Nuclear Security Enterprise.
Support JTA build procedures and processes at SNL, PX, and USAF.
Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant will be required to work onsite in Albuquerque, NM. Some travel may be required for this position (up to 25%).
Qualifications We Require:
PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a relevant STEM field; OR Master’s degree in stated field, plus one (1) year of experience; OR Bachelor’s degree in stated field, plus five (5) years of experience.
Active DOE Q-Level security clearance (or DOD equivalent).
Qualifications We Desire:
Experience in a weapon system or related department with knowledge of ND Product Realization.
Background and understanding of nuclear weapons across the lifecycle, familiarity with processes within the Nuclear Security Enterprise (NSE), and experience in working with the NNSA production agencies.
Demonstrated team experience: effective leadership, delegation, teamwork, negotiation, conflict resolution.
Experience with systems engineering development tools, techniques, and management.
Proven project management skills.
Demonstrated experience effectively networking and partnering with organizations.
Attention to detail and ability to work collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams.
Outstanding verbal and written skills, including the ability to develop and present briefings that are clear and compelling.
About Our Team:
The Weapon Systems Engineering Centers (across CA and NM) perform system engineering and systems management for the stewardship of developed nuclear weapons and associated nuclear weapon capabilities. We ensure the safety, security, and reliability of weapons throughout their lifecycle and the development and maintenance of competency through advanced development of new technologies are an essential part of center activities. Department 2365 is responsible for W87-1 product realization for the JTA10, JTA11, Type 3 and Type 5 Trainers.

Security Clearance:
Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q security clearance to start, or equivalent active security clearance with another U.S. government agency (e.g., DOD). Sandia is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants for employment need to be able to maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship. If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain a security clearance may be impacted.
