What Your Job Will Be Like:

Are you passionate about your work and dream of utilizing state-of-the-art facilities to explore solutions? Do you want to join a dynamic team that helps tackle some the most challenging issues facing our nation's security?

We are seeking a R&D team lead to lead a team in safe and secure lab activities in two state-of-the-art microelectronics labs, focused on sample preparation and forensic analysis, that have direct impact to our nation’s security. The leadership role is hands-on, technical, challenging, and rewarding. You will be leading and working alongside a team of ambitious and highly skilled technologists. While leading the team of technologists and managing lab resources, you will also draw from your technical experience and partner with staff to develop solutions addressing complex challenges within their projects. You will have responsibility for safe operations and ES&H management. You will have responsibility for competency management, staffing, and career development of the team fostering the skills and knowledge of each technologist to help grow the capabilities in the labs to support the mission.

You will be expected to partner with staff and management to quickly come up to speed on sponsor mission needs and organizational goals. Using that understanding and seeking input from lab staff and subject matter experts, you will make decisions influencing resourcing and the technical approach to new or complex problems. You will also be the primary contact for the lab’s customers, prioritizing project work, collaborating with support staff, and be expected to navigate challenges such as competing priorities and execution challenges in an honest and respectful way.

The position may require travel to related labs in the community to learn about complementary or emerging capabilities. While understanding existing capability is important, it is just as critical to look to future capability needs to meet our customers’ mission requirements associated with emerging technology challenges.

On any given day, you and your team may be called on to:

  • Apply specialized knowledge and experience to independently judge alignment of results with customer expectations.

  • Provide updates via oral or written communication methods.

  • Interact with all levels of internal and external customers in an effective manner.

  • Guide multidisciplinary teams and deliver results.

Qualifications We Require:

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant discipline, or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.

  • (Equivalent experience in lieu of degrees must be engineering or scientific experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform independent research and development.)

  • Plus, five or more years of directly related experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of the job.

  • Previous experience leading a team and/or owning/leading safe laboratory activity level work.

  • Active DOE Q or DoD TS Security Clearance.

  • The ability to obtain and maintain a DOE SCI clearance, which may require a polygraph test.

Qualifications We Desire:

Ideally, your background will also include some of the following:

  • Preferred Master's degree in Materials Science, Electrical Engineering, or related STEM field, but not required.

  • At least 5 years’ experience in a laboratory environment

  • At least 5 years’ experience with semiconductor processing, microelectronics, solder, or PCB packaging.

  • You have experience with capability and facility management including sustainment, and lifecycle planning

  • Ability to mentor employees on work tasks and organizational requirements.

  • You have experience with organizing, prioritizing, and following through to completion on multiple tasks and projects.

  • You have experience with building and leading effective working relationships.

  • Willingness to travel.

  • Active SCI Security Clearance.
