Sandia National Laboratories Software Systems Engineer (Experienced) in Albuquerque, New Mexico

We are seeking a DevSecOps Software Systems Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will work with a team to develop, deploy, operate, and maintain applications in virtual machine and cloud environments. You should be knowledgeable and customer-focused and have outstanding technical expertise and a problem-solving aptitude.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

  • Configure, test, deploy, and upgrade commercial and in-house developed software for production servers.

  • Design, develop, test, and deploy custom software for production servers.

  • Plan and execute automated and continuous software deployments.

  • Mature and streamline DevSecOps pipeline, policies, and processes.

  • Support operations and maintenance activities in Linux platforms

  • Support customer requests.

  • Respond to production incidents, diagnose, resolve, and document.

  • Analyze, identify and resolve system, software, network, and storage failures.


  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Software Engineering or a relevant field plus five (5) or more years of experience or; Master’s in Computer Science, Engineering, Software Engineering or a relevant field plus one (1) or more years of experience

  • Familiarity with troubleshooting applications running in Windows OS

  • Experience working in cloud-based environments such as AWS or Microsoft Azure

  • Agile (preferably Scrum) experience

  • Experience with databases such as SQL, MySQL, Oracle

  • Knowledge of scripting languages such as HTML, PHP, JavaScript, Bash, Python

  • Ability to acquire and maintain a required DOE L security clearance


  • Two or more years of experience with DevOps engineering practices

  • Experience administering systems with Ansible Tower

  • Experience with Information Security and maintaining/updating security documentation

  • Experience with FEDRamp compliance

  • Strong oral, written and interpersonal skills and ability to explain protocol and processes with team and management.

  • Current with industry trends, IT ops and industry standard methodologies, to make implementation recommendations

  • Project management skills, with the capability to prioritize and multitask as needed.

  • Background administering/developing RSA Archer, Angular, Spider Impact, and Devonway.

  • Experience configuring Splunk dashboards for monitoring system performance.

  • Experience with Github or other CI/CD tool.

Security Clearance:

Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. This Limited Term Employee (LTE) position is a temporary position for one year term, which may be renewed at Sandia's discretion up to a maximum of seven years.

Individuals in LTE positions may bid on regular Sandia positions as internal candidates, and in some cases may be converted to regular career positions during their term if warranted by ongoing operational needs, continuing availability of funds, and satisfactory job performance.
