Sandia National Laboratories Software Systems Engineer - COTS Applications (Experienced) in Albuquerque, New Mexico

We are seeking a Software Systems Engineer to support critically important COTS applications such as requirements management, configuration management, software build, and deployment tools.

Systems that this position would support could include IBM Rational DOORS, Micro Focus Version Manager (PVCS), and Build & Deploy.

On any given day, the selected candidate may be called on to:

  • Build and cultivate positive relationships with application users and customers

  • Support existing production applications

  • Develop upgrade plans and coordinate across infrastructure providers

  • Write and implement test plans

  • Apply configuration management practices and provide consultation to customers on recommended configuration management approaches

  • Apply security standards and quality principles

  • Follow procedures for handling sensitive data

  • Use your troubleshooting expertise to provide creative solutions to a variety of issues

  • Develop relevant documentation

  • Provide training and documentation assist end users in tool adoption and apply standard methodologies across teams


  • Bachelor's degree in Computing, Engineering, or Science field plus 5 years related experience; equivalent experience and education may also be considered (i.e. - AS + 9 years; no degree + 13 years)

  • Experience with deploying and administering commercial off the shelf (COTS) systems in a production environment

  • Strong understanding and application of change management and configuration management

  • Can obtain a DOE Q clearance


  • Active Q security clearance

  • Understanding of ITIL and IT Service management standard methodologies

  • Experience in scripting languages

  • Experience in administration and configuration in one of more of the following tools: IBM Rational DOORS, Version Manager PVSC, Open Make Software, and Microsoft Team Foundation Server

  • Experience working with DOORS eXtensiable Language (DXL) and Rational Publishing Engine (RPE)

  • Experience migrating IBM Rational DOORS to DOORS Next Generation or other requirements management tools

  • Exceptional customer service skills and experience managing customer interactions

    Department Description:

Security Clearance:
