NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs:

If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.

The Hi-Rel Comm Tech Test Lab Department (07641-1) is seeking an electronics technologist to become an integral member of the commercial electronics characterization and test lab. You will be a vital member of a team responsible performing electrical testing of COTS components and for delivery of thousands of electronic parts. These electronic piece parts are critical to ensuring the success of the nation’s defense and must be certified to meet the demanding performance specifications and reliability requirements of customer applications.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

  • Set up and perform electrical testing of select COTS parts as part of the 7641-1 test lab team

  • Work with COTS SMEs and Component Engineers to learn about weapon systems through the many applications of COTS parts

  • Contribute to the deeper understanding of how commercial electronics perform in extreme environemtns with the data you take in the lab

  • Meet test lab deliverable dates, identifying efficiencies and working through shortfalls supporting org 7641, 7642 and 7645

  • Collaborate with customers and our production agency partners.

Qualifications We Require:

  • Associates degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering technology or other relevant engineering or scientific subject area.

  • plus 7 years of relevant experience or

  • equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Experience with electronic components including selection, qualification, and testing

  • Experience working on high performing teams

  • Ability to acquire and maintain a DOE Q clearance

Qualifications We Desire:

  • Demonstrated experience performing technical problem solving related to electrical components

  • Familiarity with military standards, JEDEC standards, etc.

  • Knowledge of:

  • Reliability assessment methods including accelerated life testing

  • Failure mechanisms of capacitors, resistors, diodes, and semiconductor devices

  • Experience with radiation effects in microelectronics and semiconductors

  • Active DOE Q clearance

About Our Team:

The Hi-Rel Comm Tech Test Lab (07641-1) and the Hi-Rel Commercial Technologies Department (7641) are responsible for identification, characterization and qualification of commercial electronic components used in high reliability applications, in partnership with the Hi-Rel Program and Integration Department (07642) and the ND Electronic Part Program Department (07645) The departments provide supplier and component information, hardware, test and reliability information, and surveillance of these components, to our system/subsystem design customers and to our Production Agency partners. Our core competency includes supply chain assurance, assessing component compatibility with manufacturing processes, and test process development to determine the suitability of commercial electronic components for high consequence products. We perform research to identify and assess new technologies.

Our departments are on the leading edge of the product realization process. We are responsible for ensuring thousands of electronics parts will meet stringent performance and reliability requirements.

This requires the highest levels of understanding of:

  • How the parts will function within their intended circuits

  • Emerging technology capabilities and failure modes

  • Suppliers and their relevant risks (technical, security, delivery, etc.)

  • How to test a wide range of products

Security Clearance:
