NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs:
If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.
If you have a MedPED and you are selected for an on-site interview at Sandia National Laboratories, there may be additional steps necessary to ensure compliance with NNSA security requirements prior to the interview date.
What Your Job Will Be Like:
We are seeking a Research & Development Electromechanical Technologist to work in the Sandia Pulsed Power Sciences Center as member of the Z-Facility nuclear diagnostics team. This team develops, fields, and analyzes data from state-of-the-art neutron diagnostics for fusion experiments on the preeminent magnetic direct drive fusion facility in the world. Diagnosing neutrons produced by a target is key to understanding the behavior and performance of fusion experiments on Z. This position involves working with the diagnostics science team to develop, optimize, analyze, and field neutron diagnostics on Z.
On any given day, you may be called on to:
Field neutron diagnostics in the Z facility. This could include working with digitizers to record data, bias supplies, precision alignment systems, radioactive samples, computer-controlled counting systems.
Help develop and deploy new diagnostic instruments, including configuring electronic controls and data acquisition, providing critical feedback on designs, assembly of new instruments, developing fielding documentation.
Assist in the fielding of x-ray diagnostics, such as diodes that record the x-ray emission from the experiment.
Analyze and interpret experimental diagnostic data, including interfacing with science and engineering communities to develop and use analysis tools.

Qualifications We Require:
High School diploma and five years relevant experience
Experience working in research and development environments
Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q clearance
Qualifications We Desire:
Experience processing or analyzing data using software tools
Experience with precision scientific equipment, electronic control equipment, data acquisition and/or experience processing experimental data
Experience working in a fast-paced dynamic work environment with flexible work hours
Demonstrated ability working in a team environment
Experience with Microsoft Excel and Word
BS in Physics, Nuclear Engineering or related field
About Our Team:
The Fusion Experiments department (01683) designs and performs Inertial Confinement Fusion and High Energy Density Physics experiments in support of NNSA’s stockpile stewardship program. The department also develops and supports state-of-the-art diagnostic systems used for fusion experiments, including nuclear diagnostics and x-ray and laser imaging. Experiments are principally performed on Sandia’s Z pulsed power facility, with team members also performing experiments on the Mykonos pulsed power driver at Sandia, laser facilities including Z-Beamlet, the National Ignition Facility and Omega and at Sandia’s Ion Beam Laboratory. The department has active collaborations with Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, Los Alamos National Laboratory, the Laboratory for Laser Energetics, the UK Atomic Weapons Establishment, and a variety of universities. This team is part of the Radiation, Electrical and High Energy Density Science (REHEDS) Research Foundation at Sandia.
