What Your Job Will Be Like:
The Office of Research Excellence (ORDE) is seeking a R&D S&E staff member to become part of our collaborative team supporting both the ORDE and the LDRD Program. Laboratory Directed R&D (LDRD). (https://www.sandia.gov/research/ldrd/) This position will report to 1912, the Office of R&D Excellence, and interact extensively with the broader team including the 1910 senior manager. Onsite work presence at SNL/NM with ability to travel to SNL/CA is required. You will collaborate with a diverse team of discipline experts including other R&D staff, and professionals with expertise in finance, quality, business systems, information technologies, communications, legal and ethics among others. As a member of the team you will take on leadership and execution responsibilities for evolving facets of the LDRD office technical and programmatic activities, and ORDE R&D excellence activities. These activities will tap and grow your integrated technical and program management experience. You will team with other components of the Chief Research Office (CRO) including Academic Programs (1920) and Technology Partnerships (1980) to help build relationships with internal and external partners. You will also directly support the CRO as necessary to meet the strategic objectives of that office. This is a dynamic position with opportunities for responsibility evolution and growth based on the desires and propensity of the selected individual and interplay with the rest of our high performing multi-disciplinary team.
On any given day, you can be called on to do the following:
Development and execution of R&D excellence training programs and documents
Creation of new analysis perspectives and tools to understand performance of our ORDE and LDRD programs
Presentations to internal and external entities on a variety of LDRD and ORDE activities
Partner with stakeholders including investment areas and principal investigators to enhance our technical and program management activities and promote R&D excellence
Development of impact stories capturing the prolonged technical and programmatic accomplishments of LDRD and subsequent investments
Program and technical management of investment areas managed directly by the LDRD office
Generation of input for, and/or review of, LDRD documents including annual reports, program plans and data sheets
Telecommuting - This position is eligible for telecommuting and the selected applicant must live within a reasonable distance for commuting to the assigned work location when necessary.
Qualifications We Require:
Masters degree in a STEM field with a minimum of 5 years of R&D experience
History of peer reviewed joint publications and/or reports
Leadership and participation experience on multi-disciplinary teams
Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q Clearance
Qualifications We Desire:
Ph.D. degree in a STEM field with a minimum of 5 years R&D experience
Well-developed critical thinking skills, including experience working on self-directed assignments and team assignments involving ambiguity and multiple stakeholders
Experience with the LDRD program
Excellent oral and written communication skills, including a demonstrated talent in preparing and delivering succinct, informative documents and presentations
Experience working on multi-disciplinary teams across organizational boundaries
Active DOE Q Clearance and familiarity with the SCN
Ability to get an SCI Clearance

ORDE lies within organization 1910, which supports the science, technology, and engineering (ST&E) strategic and operational needs of the Chief Research Office (CRO).
