NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs:

If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.

What Your Job Will Be Like:

We are seeking a highly motivated Systems Engineer to lead all aspects of the refinement of software/firmware system definition and integration of software and firmware into system-level functionality on a major secure transportation program. The selected candidate will work in an exciting, dynamic and fast-paced environment where you can make a visible contribution to the national security posture of the United States!

On any given day, you may be called on to:

  • Provide significant technical contribution as a member of the system technical team.

  • Support finalization and implementation of functional system architecture and design definition.

  • Coordinate subsystem functional software/firmware integration efforts to achieve full system functionality, delivery of the fully functional final development build trailer, and the eventual First Production Unit (FPU) to meet program due date commitments.

  • Partner with the design and qualification teams to engage with module, subsystem, testbed and trailer-level functional test and qualification activities.

  • Potential minimal travel as required to support program efforts.

Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite.

Qualifications We Require:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering, or Electrical Engineering, or a relevant STEM field, plus five (5) years or more of relevant experience; OR Master's degree as stated above plus one (1) year of relevant experience.

  • Experience in execution and/or oversight of module and/or system software development and HW/SW integration efforts.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance.

Qualifications We Desire:

  • Four (4) years of experience in software development and/or system functional architecture development efforts at Sandia or elsewhere.

  • Experience with some of the following:

  • Hardware product development lifecycle.

  • Assembly, integration, and test of large systems.

  • System functional architecture definition.

  • FPGA / firmware implementation.

  • Project management experience including responsibilities for schedule, budget and risk management.

  • Mature problem-solving, collaboration skills, and an ability to take broad direction and implement technical and programmatic features of the program without detailed guidance or supervision.

  • A strong dedication to a positive teaming environment, strong written and verbal skills, with strong attention to detail, and a keen focus on customer service.

  • Active DOE L or Q security clearance, or equivalent.

About Our Team:

The Transporter Systems Development department is responsible for driving the multi-year development effort for the next generation secure transportation solution from conceptual design to production. The department works with multiple internal and external organizations and the US government customer to plan and successfully implement the program. Members of the Transporter Systems Development department are responsible for providing the technical, programmatic and systems engineering leadership for all aspects of the multi-disciplinary development effort.

Security Clearance:
