NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs:

If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.

If you have a MedPED and you are selected for an on-site interview at Sandia National Laboratories, there may be additional steps necessary to ensure compliance with NNSA security requirements prior to the interview date.

Salary Range:

$88,600 - $146,200

*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

What Your Job Will Be Like:

We are seeking a driven and results oriented R&D Mathematics Statistician to join our Statistics and Data Analytics department to perform statistical analysis and methodology development for our highly dedicated and mission focused team. We inform the collection, analysis, and interpretation of data to help Sandia complete its mission. The selected applicant will engage in project participation, applied research and development, instructing, and collaboration.

Statistical areas of emphasis in our department include design of experiments, statistical quality control, probabilistic modeling and computer simulation, statistical model calibration, analytics, statistical learning, inverse modeling and prediction, reliability and maintainability analysis, margin and uncertainty analysis, and metrology.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

  • Conduct and handle technical work and work on interdisciplinary teams in developing and implementing innovative statistical solutions to help tackle the most exciting National security problems.

  • Collaborate on multidisciplinary teams to provide statistical expertise on data collection and analysis, methodology development, and applied statistical research.

  • Apply probability modeling, including Bayesian techniques to help solve problems and answer questions

  • Assist in verifying and validating computational simulation models

  • Inform efficient use of resources and smart data collection for physical test data and/or computer simulated data through Experimental Design

  • Quantify and interpret uncertainties arising from stochastic variation and/or lack of knowledge in a variety of practical problem settings

Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite 80% of the time.

Qualifications We Require:

  • Master’s degree in statistics, mathematics, data science, computer science or closely related field

  • Programming skills in one or more of the following:

  • R

  • Python

  • Matlab

  • Ability to acquire and maintain a DOE Q clearance

Qualifications We Desire:

  • One (1) or more years of experience in statistical analysis

  • Experience teaming in an interdisciplinary R&D setting, including the proven ability to collaborate on cross-organizational teams and perform independent research and consulting

  • Proficiency with varied communication methods, including oral presentation, preparation of high-impact visual presentations, written reports, proposals, documentation and the ability to clearly and concisely communicate scientific and technical information at a level tailored to the audience

  • Proven experience with probability modeling, design of experiments, and reliability estimation

  • Experience with Bayesian modeling

  • Demonstrated experience consulting with both technical and non-technical partners without statistics backgrounds

  • Experience with time-series or statistical signal processing techniques

  • Experience with R shiny or other web application technologies

We are one of 5 departments in the Statistics and Human Systems group and primarily focus on Sandia's nuclear deterrence and global security mission areas. We provide a range of statistics capabilities to help accelerate design, qualification, production, and surveillance activities.

We actively engage in several lab level initiatives such as the nuclear deterrence digital transformation and new approaches for reliability of nuclear weapon components and systems. Our department also acts as trusted advisors on statistical methods for reliability, quality, uncertainty quantification, and metrology, and stewards a number of statistics classes for the laboratories. Security Clearance:
