NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs:

If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.

If you have a MedPED and you are selected for an on-site interview at Sandia National Laboratories, there may be additional steps necessary to ensure compliance with NNSA security requirements prior to the interview date.

Salary Range:

$162,200 - $275,900

*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

What Your Job Will Be Like:

We are seeking a highly motivated, collaborative Senior Manager, R&D Science and Engineering, to lead Org 5630, Cyber Intelligence Research Group in the Information Operations Center (5600). Center 5600, along with Centers 5500 and 5900, form the Threat Intelligence Community (TIC).

The Cyber Intelligence Research Group (5630) creates, explores, and maintains the software and systems expertise and capabilities necessary to impact our nation’s security and enable our sponsors’ missions. Our work spans from quick-response to future-looking research and includes resource-constrained system security analysis; we persist in exploring the hardest cyber problems facing our nation.

On any given day, your responsibilities may entail:

  • Team with the Senior Managers and Director in the Center and the Threat Intelligence Community to develop and implement the vision and strategies for the future;

  • Partner across the TIC on cyber threats and solutions to those threats

  • Lead Sandia’s Cyber Intelligence Research program which includes three portfolios of work for the intelligence community sponsors.

  • Leadership for the Lab Cyber Strategy’s Automated System Understanding research team and engagement across cyber Centers, including exploration of a Cyber Mission Campaign.

  • Provide leadership for the group and be accountable for negotiated execution and desired outcomes.

  • Build and cultivate relationships and partnerships with other organizations across the laboratory.

  • Lead, develop, and energize the managers and staff in Group 5630.

  • Attract, engage develop, and retain high-performing teams.

  • Support managers with personnel, safety, or security issues.

  • Meet with key customers and other partners, locally or at remote locations to maintain and build relationships and programs.

  • Engage in growth opportunities - technical, leadership, managerial, etc.

  • Travel and interact positively with a diverse set of external sponsors at least once a month.

  • Mentor across the Laboratories

Qualifications We Require:

  • Advanced degree (Master's or PhD) in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related STEM technical field with six or more years’ technical experience including leading or managing teams.

  • OR Bachelor’s degree in relevant discipline, plus, ten or more years of directly related experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of the job

  • OR combination of education and equivalent experience in lieu of degrees must be engineering or scientific experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform independent research and development..

  • Must have a minimum of five years of demonstrated leadership and/or managerial experience.

  • An Active DOE Q or DoD TS security clearance is required to start this role.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain SCI access, which may require a polygraph test.

Qualifications We Desire:

Ideally, your background will also include a subset of the following:

  • An MS or PhD in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering or closely related field plus 10 years of relevant experience.

  • Five years of demonstrated leadership and/or managerial experience.

  • Demonstrated ability to build collaborative relationships, internal and external to Sandia, including building new relationships

  • Demonstrated management, program management and/or leadership skills.

  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills in developing trusting relationships among peers, staff, management, and customers.

  • Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills in the development and delivery of presentations, proposals, reports, and documentation.

  • Demonstrated commitment to staff recruitment, development, mentoring, and retention.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage diverse security requirements in a classified environment.

  • Successful experience in business development with the Department of Defense or similar government entities and understanding of the SPP/SIPP process and business model at SNL.

  • Successful experience in delivering R&D technologies and products to US government sponsors.

  • Demonstrated leadership in developing customer requirements into technical research roadmaps.

  • Demonstrated ability to technically lead teams in the research and development of novel cyber security and cyber modeling and simulation techniques.

  • Demonstrated ability to technically lead teams in the transition of research and development into mission impact.

  • Strong desire to support and work interactively with management teams, project teams, and customers.

  • Dedicated to establishing safe and secure operations.

  • Ability to travel and interact positively with a diverse set of external sponsors at least once a month.

  • Current Active SCI security clearance with a current polygraph or you previously have had an SCI Clearance.

About Our Team:

Center 5600, Information Operations, is part of the Threat Intelligence Community along with Center 5500, Applied Information Sciences, and Center 5900, Proliferation Assessments. Center 5600 consists of four Groups with deep capability and knowledge that support government objectives. The 5630 Group consists of 5 departments: 5631, Threat Analysis Technologies; 5632, System Software & Virtualization; 5634, Embedded Systems Engineering; 5636, Computer Science Department; 5638, Cyber Initiatives.

The Cyber Intelligence Research Group (5630) primarily executes work for the Information Operations (IO) program through the cultivation and deployment of ground-breaking cyber capabilities within 5600. IO encompasses multi-disciplinary, high-impact cyber programs, which have decades-long FFRDC-like relationships with their respective United States Government (USG) sponsors. The vision of the IO program is to be the trusted cyber research institution enabling the USG to accomplish critical national security objectives through research, development, and technology transition. The Cyber Intelligence Research group has a highly collaborative management team, which works together to address program, line, and capability requirements, with highly matrixed staff. Areas of emphasis for the group include vulnerability research, reverse engineering, assessments, data analytics, and software development.

Security Clearance:

Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications.
