We are seeking a highly motivated R&D S&E Systems Engineer to become part of the Integrated Stockpile Evaluation (ISE) Air Delivered Weapons team supporting the W80-4 Surveillance program. Our highly-functioning team is currently developing requirements for the weapon, future testers, and new data analysis software. The selected candidate will become the technical lead and will be required to coordinate with internal and external partners.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

  • Lead technical efforts related to designing system-level test programs for the W80-4, such as requirements development and establishing a technical course of action with the team based on weapon design decisions.

  • Mentoring and on-boarding team members, assisting in delegation of tasks between team members, serving as the liaison to pull in support from SMEs when needed.

  • Serve as the primary representative to customers and partners for the W80-4 Surveillance Program through the negotiation, management, and documentation of Surveillance requirements for W80-4 System-level testing.

  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with key influencers and collaborate with multi-functional teams including W80-4 Systems, Component Engineering teams, and NSE agencies.

  • Collaborate with or lead teams that include internal and external personnel (i.e., National Nuclear Security Administration customers, DoD customers, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, DoD contractors, Kansas City National Security Campus, and the Pantex production agency).

    Required:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering plus 5 years related experience; or equivalent experience and or achievements that demonstrate the knowledge, skills and ability to perform the duties of the job

  • At least two years leadership experience within an R&D team

  • Demonstrated ability to champion continual improvement efforts

  • Experience in nuclear weapon product realization processes

  • Experience in Nuclear Deterrence or the Nuclear Security Enterprise

  • General understanding of data acquisition systems

  • Experience writing requirements

  • Demonstrated ability to learn complex technical concepts and to recognize the programmatic impacts of that may result from technical course changes

  • Ability to effectively communicate technical information to technical and non-technical audiences

  • Experience developing and managing requirements

  • Active US DOE Q-level security clearance or DoD Top Secret

    Desired:

  • Experience and/or familiarity with the W80-4 technical and programmatic aspects.

  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships and establish credibility with technical project teams

  • Demonstrated organizational skills, including the ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure and/or ambiguous environment

  • Demonstrated teaming skills, including the ability to work effectively with leadership at multiple levels, technical project teams, customers/sponsors and across organizations.

  • Demonstrated ability to craft technical roadmaps and execute against them

  • Demonstrated technical writing and presentation skills, including an ability to succinctly explain complex technical concepts

  • Experience with leading projects or programs through the Nuclear Deterrence system engineering lifecycle.

  • Strong interpersonal skills, with a passion and talent for encouraging constructive working relationships with our customers and stakeholders.

  • Ability to combine the inputs of multiple subject matter experts (process engineers, technicians, scientists, design engineers) to arrive at a technically sound and implementable solution, document, or decision.

  • A graduate degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Computer Engineering.

  • Experience leading root cause investigations

  • Proficient understanding of data acquisition systems and data analysis

  • Proficient understanding of systems engineering

    Department Description:

The primary objective of our organization is to assure that the US nuclear weapon stockpile remains safe, secure, and reliable as the underlying basis of the US nuclear deterrent capability.

Department members provide the technical and programmatic leadership for system-level laboratory and flight testing programs for stockpile air delivered weapon systems. In support of weapon modernization programs, we collaborate to develop requirements for the weapon, future testers, and new data analysis software. Ultimately, we provide engineering support for the life-cycle of the weapons, including: special studies, testing and data analysis, and leading root cause investigations that can stem from testing. Conducting the data analysis and reporting on weapon performance requires a thorough understanding of the technical performance of the weapon and data collection systems. We are responsible for communicating test results to our customers and stakeholders through presentations or written reports. Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q security clearance to start, or equivalent active security clearance with another U.S. government agency (e.g., DOD).
