NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs:

If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.

Salary Range:

$101,400 - $201,400

*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

If so, you may be the highly motivated engineer we are seeking! An opening exists for an electronics or electrical engineer with a desire to face the challenge of commercial electronic product engineering. The candidate will work with multiple teams in developing laboratory processes and electrical testing using commercially available testers to characterize commercial electronics devices for use in Sandia applications. The candidate will work with technicians who produce the raw measurement data to provide analytical summarization to Component Engineers and next level customers. On any given day, you may be called on to:

  • Evaluate, develop and debug complex test methods including tests to be performed at remote locations.

  • Design hardware for testing, for example fixtures, load boards and bias boards .

  • Use tester platforms and lab instrumentation (oscilloscopes, DMMs, etc.) to verify performance of test programs.

  • Collaborate with design, failure analysis, component, and system engineers as well as maintenance and safety personnel.

  • Formulate and execute measurement assurance plans (MAPs) for Automated Test and Bench Equipment.

  • Analyze and summarize raw data for presentation to next level customers.

Qualifications We Require:

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical or electronics engineering plus 5 years of relevant experience, or equivalent:

  • experience and/or achievements that demonstrate the knowledge, skills and ability to perform the duties of the job.

  • Experience with designing and assembling printed wiring boards for commercial electronic devices.

  • Experience with schematic capture and circuit board layout software for electronic board design

  • Electrical testing of electronics, such as commercial electronic devices, using commercially available test equipment.

  • Experience analyzing and compiling data (JMP, Matlab, or Excel)

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance

Qualifications We Desire:

  • Master's degree in electrical or electronics engineering.

  • Experience with electronic components including selection, qualification, and testing.

  • LabView or other instrument control language skill.

  • Experience with modern programming languages, Python, VBA, other object-oriented languages

  • Experience with semiconductor testers such as the Teradyne Microflex, National Instruments STS

  • Ability to work independently and collaborate well in a diverse team of designers and test engineers.

  • Current DOE Q- clearance

About Our Team:

The Hi-Rel Commercial Technologies Department (7641) and the Hi-Rel Program and Integration Department (7642) are responsible for identification, characterization and qualification of commercial electronic components used in high reliability applications. The departments provide supplier and component information, hardware, test and reliability information, and surveillance of these components, to our system/subsystem design customers and to our Production Agency partners. Our core competency includes supply chain assurance, assessing component compatibility with manufacturing processes, and test process development to determine the suitability of commercial electronic components for high consequence products. We perform research to identify and assess new technologies.

Security Clearance:
