What Your Job Will Be Like:

Be part of a high functioning, inter-disciplinary, elite and collaborative team that solves complex engineering challenges. You will make a difference in national security and contribute to Sandia’s top-priority mission. We are seeking a highly motivated, professional R&D Mechanical Engineers to join our team to develop, design, implement, and maintain strategies to lead or contribute to R&D project teams. Opportunities exist to develop new technology strategies and to lead R&D project teams. On any given day, you may be called on to:• Manage, assign, and quality-check tasks to sub-team members in order to meet program deliverables/milestones• Create and modify component and system definition by implementing and integrating design solutions• Generate and quality-check 3D models and detailed drawings of complex components and assemblies• Generate guidance, process, or assembly procedure documentation• Help plan, implement, and analyze data for component or system environmental testing

Selected applicants will be interviewed by a subcommittee of managers. Subsequently, successful applicants will be provided to managers for placement in positions across Center 7600.

Interested applicants should be currently enrolled and pursuing a Master's degree in a relevant STEM field.

This positions will require reporting onsite due to the nature of the work.

Some travel may be required.

Qualifications We Require:

  • Advanced (Masters or PhD) degree in Mechanical Engineering or relevant STEM degree.

  • Undergraduate degree also needs to be in a relevant STEM degree

  • Ability to acquire and maintain a DOE Q-Level security clearance

Qualifications We Desire:

  • Self-management / self-sufficiency – ability to work on projects with minimal management oversight and the ability to solicit new projects from an existing customer base.

  • Demonstrated ability in applying engineering principles to formulate design concepts and meet product requirements such as form, fit, and function.

  • Demonstrated successful teamwork, excellent communication skills, and consistent demonstration of good behaviors.

  • Consistent record of demonstrating initiative and getting results by taking ownership of assignments.

  • Experience performing mechanical/structural analysis or CREO Simulate on component designs.

  • Application of Design for Manufacturing principles and proven ability to deliver large and sophisticated projects.

  • Leadership experience: managing, assigning, and checking tasks to team members.

About Our Team:

The Engineering and Design Integration Center (7600) is a multi-discipline, product-focused organization that provides engineering design, components, subsystems, integration, testing, and field support for nuclear weapons and other national security applications. Examples of these applications include the development of satellite and other space-flight payloads and testing for high consequence military programs. The Center is divided into three main competencies: Advanced Mechanical Systems, Sensor and Fuze Engineering, and Telemetry and Software Systems.
