NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs:
If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.

$101,400 - $201,400 *Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate¿s experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

We are seeking to hire experienced engineers into staff leadership roles as component Product Realization Team (PRT) Leads.
As part of the surety mechanisms group, you’ll ensure the continued delivery of mechanism components---components that play a critical role in assuring the safety and security of our nation’s nuclear deterrent in a wide range of scenarios. In this role, you’ll collaborate with engineering and research teams across the broader Nuclear Security Enterprise to produce, assess, troubleshoot, and drive continuous improvement for these mechanically intricate components in assemblies consisting of over 100 custom-designed and built piece parts.
This position would involve leading a mechanism technology team, interfacing with production counterparts and reporting to customers.
On any given day, you may be called upon to:
Lead staff and technologists towards key milestones for safety critical components of Nuclear Deterrence (ND) Systems
Utilize your expertise in mechanical engineering to field high-integrity products, meeting both technical and programmatic requirements
Employ analytical thinking to lead resolution of ambiguous problems with a multi-disciplinary team
Maintain the design intent of Mark Quality hardware through requirements negotiation and trade studies while engaging with relevant stakeholders
Lead investigations and resolution of anomalies through analysis and testing
Present your work to peers, customers, and management in formal and informal settings
Use sound project management skills to provide structure to your PRT’s activity level work so the team can prioritize and execute properly
Identify project risk so that appropriate handling and mitigation strategies can be developed, communicated, and executed
This position will offer you substantial opportunity for training, technical mentorship, and work across multiple nuclear deterrence programs. Some travel is required, but not extensive.
Qualifications We Require:
Master’s or PhD in mechanical engineering or a related discipline plus 5 years of relevant experience;
or Bachelor’s in a STEM discipline plus 9 years of relevant experience
Active DoE Q security clearance
Experience in leading diverse teams through production phases
Experience in the design, development, and production of ND components, subsystems, or systems
Qualifications We Desire:
Experience working with external vendors and the KCNSC production agency
Experience working with and reporting to high-level customers
Experience in leading diverse teams through the ND Production Lifecycle
Experience leading a multi-disciplinary team
Basic proficiency with computer aided design/drafting
Experience with mechanical modeling/analysis approaches and tools (e.g., commercial FEA software)
Proficiency with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing and tolerance analysis
Familiarity with materials characterization techniques
Excellent communication skills including the ability to prepare clearly-written reports and deliver well-articulated briefings
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with diverse teams and across differing communication styles
Genuine technical curiosity, and an interest and aptitude for learning more
Strong commitment to quality, safety, collaboration, and teamwork
