NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs:

If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.

Salary Range:

$138,600 - $235,500

*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

If so, you may be person we seek to join our team!We are seeking highly motivated experienced engineers for our robust Hi-Reliability Commercial Technologies Department (07641). You will be leading a team responsible for characterizing and understanding commercial electronic part performance and reliability in extreme environments. These commercial electronic parts are critical to ensuring the success of the nation’s defense and must be deeply understood to meet demanding performance specifications and reliability requirements. You will further your deep understanding of long term part reliability and part performance in extreme environment for commercial electronic parts as a part of our team.Join us and solve technically interesting, challenging, meaningful, and highly consequential problems.

On any given day, you will be called on to:

  • Serve as the subject matter expert for commercial electronic products and be highly knowledgeable of long term part reliability theory and practice, and

  • Understand part performance in extreme environments using state-of-the-art testing and modeling tools

  • Utilize advanced concepts spanning several specialized disciplines to conduct innovative engineering studies including research efforts for emerging technologies or other special topics.

  • Add to the commercial electronic parts knowledge area through developing new concepts, redirecting approaches, or redefining customer requirements to impact organizational operations or directions

  • Develop new methods, processes, and approaches in solving complex problems by leading activities and collaborating with leading science and research experts in materials, radiation effects, modeling and electrical sciences

  • Serve on committees of technical societies, as appropriate

  • Collaborate with customers and our production agency partners on supply chain and technical assurance of commercial electronic parts

Qualifications We Require:

  • Master’s degree in Electrical, Electronic, Computer or Materials Engineering, Physics or other relevant engineering or scientific field

  • 12 years of engineering or scientific experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform independent research and development

  • or PhD in any of the above field

  • Experience with electronic components for long life high reliability applications including: Selection, Characterization, Reliability, Testing and/or Semiconductor Device Physics

  • A minimum of 3 and maximum of 5, letters of recommendations which speak to demonstrated skills, knowledge and abilities at the distinguished level

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q clearance.

Qualifications We Desire:

  • Proven experience in:

  • performing technical problem solving related to electrical component

  • part reliability for long life high reliability applications, both theory and application

  • component electrical test methods and equipment, and/or,

  • semiconductor device physics.

  • Knowledge of:

  • reliability assessment methods, including accelerated life testing and test to failure

  • radiation effects in microelectronics and semiconductors

  • failure mechanisms of commercial electronic parts

  • Analog (SPICE-like) circuit and commercial electronic parts model development and analysis

  • supply chain management to ensure high quality and avoid counterfeit parts.

  • Familiarity with appropriate standards such as MIL-Spec and JEDEC

  • Active DOE Q clearance

About Our Team:

The Hi-Rel Commercial Technologies Department (7641) and the Hi-Rel Program and Integration Department (7642) are responsible for identification, characterization and qualification of commercial electronic components used in high reliability applications. The departments provide supplier and component information, hardware, test and reliability information, and surveillance of these components, to our system/subsystem design customers and to our Production Agency partners. Our core competency includes supply chain assurance, assessing component compatibility with manufacturing processes, and test process development to determine the suitability of commercial electronic components for high consequence products. We perform research to identify and assess new technologies.

Our departments are on the leading edge of the product realization process. We are responsible for ensuring thousands of electronics parts will meet stringent performance and reliability requirements. This requires the highest levels of understanding of:How the parts will function within their intended circuits merging technology capabilities and failure modesSuppliers and their relevant risks (technical, security, delivery, etc.)How to test a wide range of products
