NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs:

We are seeking a highly motivated High Reliability Electronic Components Engineer Program Lead for our robust Hi-Reliability Commercial Technologies Department. You will be a part of a team responsible for delivery of thousands of electronic parts in the Rel Commercial Technologies Department (07641). These electronic piece parts are critical to ensuring the success of the nation’s defense and must be qualified to meet the demanding performance specifications and reliability requirements of customer applications. We have the need for individuals who have a deep understanding of radiation effects on electronic devices. Join us if you have enthusiasm for solving interesting and highly consequential problems.

On any given day, you will be called on to:

  • Serve as the subject matter expert for a family of electronic products and be highly knowledgeable with the performance of the parts in a variety of environments/conditions.

  • Work with a variety of next level assembly design teams to learn about weapon systems through their many major components (MCs). Excellence in this role includes preventing issues by having an intimate knowledge of the supply chain for their commodity.

  • Collaborate with customers and our production agency partners. Depending on the specific commodity, you may need expertise in state-of-the-art capacitors, resistors, analog and digital integrated circuits, diodes, filters, etc

  • Lead research efforts for emerging technologies or other special topics. Lead projects that have multi-functional team members and impact how the department interacts with customers and partners such as NSC.

Qualifications We Require:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Electrical, Electronic or Computer Engineering, Materials Engineering, Physics or other relevant engineering or scientific field; or equivalent

  • 12 years of engineering or scientific experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform independent research and development

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q clearance

Qualifications We Desire:

  • Master's Degree in Electrical, Electronic or Computer Engineering, Materials Engineering, Physics or other relevant engineering or scientific field with at least two years of experience.

  • PhD in Electrical, Electronic or Computer Engineering, Materials Engineering, Physics or other relevant engineering or scientific field

  • Experience with electronic components including selection, qualification, and testing.

  • Demonstrated experience performing technical problem solving related to electrical components

  • Familiarity with military standards, JEDEC standards, etc.,

  • Knowledge of:

  • Reliability assessment methods including accelerated life testing

  • Semiconductor device physics

  • Failure mechanisms of capacitors, resistors, diodes, and semiconductor devices

  • Supply chain management to ensure high quality and avoid counterfeit parts

  • Experience with radiation effects in microelectronics and semiconductors

  • Familiarity with component electrical test methods and equipment

  • DOE Q clearance

About Our Team:

The Hi-Rel Commercial Technologies Department (7641) and the Hi-Rel Program and Integration Department (7642) are responsible for identification, characterization and qualification of commercial electronic components used in high reliability applications. The departments provide supplier and component information, hardware, test and reliability information, and surveillance of these components, to our system/subsystem design customers and to our Production Agency partners. Our core competency includes supply chain assurance, assessing component compatibility with manufacturing processes, and test process development to determine the suitability of commercial electronic components for high consequence products. We perform research to identify and assess new technologies.

Our departments are on the leading edge of the product realization process. We are responsible for ensuring thousands of electronics parts will meet stringent performance and reliability requirements. This requires the highest levels of understanding of:

  • How the parts will function within their intended circuits

  • Merging technology capabilities and failure modes

  • Suppliers and their relevant risks (technical, security, delivery, etc.)

  • How to test a wide range of products
