What Your Job Will Be Like:
Power Sources Technology Group (PSTG) is seeking a R&D Manager to lead the Power Sources Production Department (7548). Department 7548 serves as the Production Agency for Thermal and Lithium Battery products manufactured for Sandia’s Nuclear Deterrence mission. This includes both managing external suppliers as well as advancing internal Production capabilities. The manager for this department will be responsible for interfaces and relationships with SNL-PA, internal Systems customers, internal and external Design partners, and WP&C partners.
The Power Sources Production Group is in the midst of several transitional activities. While several Thermal Battery Products are about to hit Last Production Units, we have significant ongoing Lithium production, several Production restart activities in the planning stages, new designs that are in development, and the opportunity to invest in Production Process development activities to improve future Production activities. This department also supports various small production-like activities for ancillary projects that support the ND mission. The manager of this department will also be expected to advance Design for Manufacturing within PSTG and furthering Model Based design and production approaches.
This position will require some travel in support of program meetings and occasional vendor visits.
As the manager of 7548, on any given day you can expect to:
Interface with strategic partners in the Program Office and NNSA to further Production Operations activities and funding
Work with our Design Agency managers to plan and execute production of new ND products
Work with the Design Agency(s) and our external suppliers to complete manufacturing of thermal battery and thermal battery assemblies for current modernization programs
Engage with SNL-PA on Production of products in their purview
Collaborate with other managers within 7540 to execute PSTG’s strategic plan
Mentor, coach, and support staff members in 7548 in advancing towards their career goals

About Our Team:
The Power Sources Technology Group (PSTG), 7540, develops, delivers, and assures the performance of power source components for nuclear weapons and innovative solutions for other national security challenges. The PSTG utilizes the latest scientific and engineering technologies to research, design, develop, and produce power sources used for NNSA, DoD, DOE, NASA, and commercial applications. A key driver of this organization is to advance power source technologies to meet both current and future energy needs.
PSTG is a full-life-cycle organization, providing research, engineering design/development, and production of thermal batteries, thermoelectrics, lithium primary and secondary batteries, novel battery chemistries, component and materials surveillance, and battery abuse testing research. Power source technology is a growth area both within the Nuclear Deterrence program and Energy and Geosciences program.
Posting Duration:
This posting will be open for application submissions for a minimum of seven (7) calendar days, including the ‘posting date’. Sandia reserves the right to extend the posting date at any time.
Security Clearance:
Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q security clearance to start, or equivalent active security clearance with another U.S. government agency (e.g., DOD). Sandia is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants for employment need to be able to maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship. If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain a security clearance may be impacted.
Applicants offered employment with Sandia are subject to a federal background investigation to meet the requirements for access to classified information or matter if the duties of the position require a DOE security clearance. Substance abuse or illegal drug use, falsification of information, criminal activity, serious misconduct or other indicators of untrustworthiness can cause a clearance to be denied or terminated by DOE, resulting in the inability to perform the duties assigned and subsequent termination of employment.
EEO:
All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, disability, or veteran status and any other protected class under state or federal law.
NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs:
If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.
If you have a MedPED and you are selected for an on-site interview at Sandia National Laboratories, there may be additional steps necessary to ensure compliance with NNSA security requirements prior to the interview date.
