What Your Job Will Be Like:

Organization 05442, Navigation Guidance & Control (NGC), is currently seeking a Hypersonic Flight Software Engineer/Developer to join their team.

The selected candidate will contribute to an embedded flight software product for hypersonic strike applications with over a decade of successful flight test pedigree. The baseline software product for the Conventional Prompt Strike (CPS) program, developed by NGC staff, requires integration of emerging technologies based on a planned series of block upgrades. Efforts will focus on embedded software development activities enabling the integration of new capabilities, algorithms, and avionics devices. The DevOps culture of Organization 05442 enables staff to contribute to all areas of software design, development, and test.

Successful candidates will collaborate with sister NGC organizations who focus on low-to-mid Technology Readiness Level (TRL) technologies. These organizations are managed as a team and the unified goal is to mature NGC technologies from concept to integrated flight system solutions. One has opportunities to contribute at each TRL as technologies are matured with the final system application in mind.

On any given day, one may be called upon to:

  • Implement the software development lifecycle process for Sandia's contributions to the CPS program

  • Develop embedded software for highly reliable real-time flight systems

  • Write device drivers for real-time operating systems to enable integration of new avionics components

  • Assist with software development associated with software test fixtures such as Hardware-in-the-Loop (HWIL) test assets

  • Support system-level hardware testing including participation on-console with Assembly, Integration, and Test teams

  • Architect and implement software test methodologies

  • Contribute to software architecture design and development

  • Coordinate and collaborate with external program partners to meet program-level objectives and achievements

Periodic travel may be required to support system-level integration testing and flight test activities. Trip durations can range from a few days to several weeks, depending on assigned roles and responsibilities.

Qualifications We Require:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related engineering field

  • Experience programming in C/C++

  • Experience in object-oriented programming

  • The ability to occasionally travel

  • The ability to acquire and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance

Qualifications We Desire:

  • A Bachelor’s degree and Advance degree (Master's or PhD) in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related engineering field

  • Experience in embedded software development at the application layer

  • Experience developing for real-time operating systems

  • Applications experience with real-time embedded software engineering at the hardware level, including I/O driver software, interrupt service routines, and networking protocols

  • Familiarity with the Greenhills INTEGRITY® Real-time Operating System

  • Lab experience with use of common digital debugging tools (e.g. oscilloscopes, logic probes, and logic analyzers)

  • Experience with software unit, integration, and functional testing

  • Experience in the application of software engineering standards

  • The ability to collaborate and contribute as a member of a multi-disciplinary team

  • Proven strong written and verbal communication skills

  • An active DOE Q-level security clearance; or other equivalent active security clearance such as DOD Top Secret
