Sandia National Laboratories R&D, Human Factors Expert (Mid-Career) in Albuquerque, New Mexico


We are seeking a Human Factors Expert to fill our R&D Systems Research and Analysis role. The responsibilities of this position include the application of human factors principles to exploratory research and development, analysis and design of new or existing hardware/software, and analysis/design/evaluation of complex systems.

More specific tasks may include: task analyses, human reliability analysis, human factors training, software/hardware user interface design, industrial ergonomics assessments, experimental design, human factors support to multidisciplinary design and analysis teams, and root cause.


  • PhD or MS plus 5 years related experience (Human Factors, Industrial Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, Experimental Psychology, or related field).


  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

Department Description:

The Human Factors Department provides technical expertise to the Laboratories though consulting to Sandia projects (both within and external to the Nuclear Weapons program) and to external customers. The Human Factors function supports a broad range of projects related to national security with major objectives of better understanding the role of people in complex systems, enhancing the effectiveness of human-machine systems, and identifying and mitigating the impact of potential human error.

Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) granted Q-level security clearance.

Sandia is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment drug testing, and a pre-employment background review that includes personal reference checks, law enforcement record and credit checks, and employment and education verifications. This Limited Term Employee (LTE) position is a temporary position for one year term, which may be renewed at Sandia's discretion up to a maximum of seven years.
