NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs:

If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.

If you have a MedPED and you are selected for an on-site interview at Sandia National Laboratories, there may be additional steps necessary to ensure compliance with NNSA security requirements prior to the interview date.

Salary Range:

$101,400 - $201,400 *Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate¿s experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

What Your Job Will Be Like:

We have a great opportunity for an Electronics Engineer to be a Production Agency (PA) Lead on our compound semiconductor microelectronics team supporting the Heterojunction Bipolar Transistor (HBT) Product Realization Team (PRT)! We work in a highly collaborative teaming environment to develop new custom application specific components and circuits with direct, relevant impact to our national security mission while maintaining a well-established small-scale production line.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

  • Lead the production activities enabling on-time delivery to our customers, team with the PRT to drive continuous improvement and represent the PRT in various production status reporting forums, as needed.

  • Work with the PRT lead and Sandia Production (SP) to respond to requests for changes to production quantities and/or delivery need dates, assess our ability to meet these needs, development parts to support emerging customer needs and provide schedules to plan development activities.

  • Lead production planning, inventory management and preparing product for delivery.

  • Guide continuous improvement by assessing production capabilities, processes, and procedures to maintain high-rigor, high confidence production.

  • Become familiar with and support the full HBT production line, managing priorities and eliminating roadblocks.

  • Partner with the project management team to provide up-to-date status for production activities and report out on variances and yield metrics to Sandia Production.

  • Provide quarterly yield reports to the Production Governance Board.

  • Prepare presentation materials and represent the HBT PRT to the NNSA Systems groups, the next level-of-assembly major component teams, and different levels of Sandia management.

Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite.

Qualifications We Require:

  • Master's degree in Electrical, Electronic, Microelectronic, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering or relevant STEM field plus one (1) year experience or;

  • Bachelor’s degree in the above plus five (5) years’ experience

  • Ability to acquire and maintain a DOE Q clearance

Qualifications We Desire:

  • Experience with a high-rigor production environment, especially within Sandia

  • Knowledge of HBTs or other microelectronics

  • Proven ability to summarize data and succinctly communicate updates to customers and management.

  • Demonstrated attention to detail and experience in driving execution of plans to ensure project results are delivered on time and on budget with the utmost commitment to quality

  • Strong oral, written, interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills, including the ability to collaborate well in a multi-disciplinary team environment and develop positive relationships

The III-V Microelectronics Department is responsible for the research, development, and technology maturation of Group III-V compound semiconductors within the Microsystems Engineering, Science, and Applications Center. With highly collaborative teaming, we enable the creation, development and delivery of application specific microelectronic components addressing high-performance, harsh-environment communication, sensing, power, and control problems. Our products provide solutions to customers who need a trusted partner to create and deliver on stated performance, size, weight, power, and cost benefits relative to alternative technologies. Core department capabilities include electronic modeling and simulation; epitaxial design, growth and characterization; rad-hard microelectronic device and circuit design, microfabrication, characterization, and reliability; and high-reliability microelectronic product design, characterization, and delivery for high-consequence national security applications.
