Join our dynamic EM team that helps tackle some of the most challenging issues facing our nation’s security!We are looking for self-motivated candidates to work on electromagnetics applications including first-principles electromagnetics research and development, development of state-of-the-art computational electromagnetics codes, verification and validation of analytical and computational electromagnetic models, and analysis of complex, high-consequence nuclear deterrence systems.

You will have opportunities to:

  • Engage with customers, analysts, and experimentalists to understand requirements, choose and implement solution methods, perform data analysis, and communicate results both internal and external to the laboratory

  • Collaborate with a dynamic team of code developers to verify and validate performance and accuracy of brand-new electromagnetic codes running on the NNSA's high performance computing platforms

  • Collaborate on basic research with interdisciplinary teams comprised of analysts across Sandia, other NNSA laboratories, and universities toward understanding of complex electromagnetic phenomena

  • Report on analysis results via internal briefings, internal reports, publications, and/or conference presentations

Qualifications We Require:

  • Masters degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, or a related field plus 5 years’ experience – PhD preferred

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q Clearance

Qualifications We Desire:

  • Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, or a related field with a graduate focus in applied electromagnetics

  • Publications or presentations demonstrating experience with developing or using numerical simulations or theoretical analysis applied to electromagnetic phenomena

  • Experience in one or more of the following:

  • Use of EM modeling tools

  • Development of specialized numerical analysis tools

  • Performance of numerical simulations on high performance computing platforms (basic Linux commands, batch submission, shell scripting, etc.)

About Our Team:

Department 1352 is a multidisciplinary research group that conducts theory and simulation to support the Department of Energy's NNSA Defense Programs. The primary areas of research include analytic theory and modeling in linear and non-linear electromagnetics, plasma physics and high voltage breakdown. Our capabilities are used to advance our understanding of electromagnetic and plasma effects on components and systems in support of the NNSA's stockpile stewardship program. This includes the development of massively parallel electromagnetic codes as well as coupled Monte-Carlo/particle-in-cell plasma radiation codes under the DOE Advanced Scientific Computing program.

Security Clearance:
