We are seeking Computer Scientists/Engineers to become part of a software development team that works across all aspects of an application’s software stack including requirements elicitation, DevOps, database design, backend development in multiple languages (e.g., Java, TypeScript, Python, Golang), and web-based services and UIs.
The selected applicant will have demonstrated experience in one or more of the following technical areas:
DevOps experience with modern development and platform environments including CI/CD pipelines, Git, Docker, Ansible, Terraform
Database experience, including talking to customers to define data needs and use cases, using various databases (relational, document, time-series) and tools to collaborate with underlying database technologies (e.g. GraphQL)
Backend design/implementation of data processing algorithms, microservice architectures, message passing, and process controls using Python, Golang, JVM languages (Java, Clojure, Scala)
Web-based UI development using modern languages and frameworks such as React, Redux, Vue.js, Apollo, Angular, TypeScript, Cesium
Mid-to-high TRL (Technical Readiness Level) software engineering design and implementation
Agile software engineering methodologies
This position necessitates various interactions across the laboratory, including collaboration with partner organizations and partner projects. In this role, there is significant opportunity for leadership development, and opportunity to engage in leadership development activities both independently and as part of the larger team.
Undergraduate and advanced degree (Masters or PhD) in related STEM field; or Bachelor's in relevant STEM field, plus 4 years related experience
Experience in software design, engineering and development skills, including familiarity with modern software development practices and tools
Experience with object-oriented software development (e.g., Java and Python)
Can obtain a DOE Q and SCI clearance
Ability to operate both independently with minimal direction and as a member of a collaborative team as projects and assignments warrant
Eagerness to learn about and assess the utility of new languages and technologies
Knowledge and experience with implementation of the full software life cycle using Agile or Iterative methodologies such as Scrum and Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe)
Experience developing mission critical data processing and analysis systems
Excellent verbal & written communication and organizational skills
Strong focus on the customer and can-do response to questions/requests with demonstrated exceptional follow through
An affinity towards functional programming languages
Proven strong analytical and creative problem-solving skills
Current DOE Q-level clearance with current or recent SCI clearance
The Emergent Systems and Analysis department specializes in the exploration, development, and analysis of emergent and turbulent technologies in computer science to solve complex problems.
