Salary Range:

$99,700 - $196,100 *Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate¿s experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

What Your Job Will Be Like:

We are seeking an R&D Computer Scientist to join the Z Machine Application Solutions team. As a member of the team, you will analyze, architect, develop and deploy innovative, robust full-stack applications to support the operation of Sandia’s Z Machine facility. This position requires highly effective collaboration with a diverse set of multidisciplinary personnel within the organization, the Z Operations group, and the 1600 Pulsed Power Sciences center. The ability to synthesize complex problems, deal with ambiguity and adapt to emergent issues in a fast-paced environment is key to this position. On any given day you may be called on to:

  • Analyze, design, develop, and deploy full-stack .NET web applications to support the diverse Z Machine community.

  • Maintain and implement improvements to existing software solutions.

  • Research, develop and implement technical and process improvements to the team’s development processes and tools (DevOps pipeline, testing frameworks, agile processes, etc.).

  • Work as a member of an agile development team.

  • Deploy and support hardware devices as needed to support Z Operations (e.g. tablets, kiosks, information displays).

  • React quickly to troubleshoot and solve problems that are impacting the ability to operate the Z Machine.

  • Provide Subject Matter Expert support on information systems to a diverse set of collaborators throughout the Z Machine community.

  • Create reports and assemble metrics as required.

Qualifications We Require:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Management of Information Systems, Information Assurance, Computer Information Systems or a relevant field plus 6 years of experience; or a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in a relevant field plus 2 years of experience

  • Experience with modern software development tools and practices

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q clearance

Qualifications We Desire:

  • Experience with Full stack web development, .NET (C#) Development, and/or Relational databases

  • Demonstrated ability to research, evaluate, recommend, and architect technologies and software solutions with complex requirements and a diverse set of stakeholders

  • Experience working on an agile team or in an agile or iterative environment

  • Experience with multiple platforms and technologies, such as ASP.NET MVC, ASP.NET Core, SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS), Visual Studio, or web technologies such as TypeScript, Angular, jQuery or Bootstrap

  • Experience utilizing and administering Microsoft SQL Server databases

  • Experience with data visualization solutions such as Power BI, Tableau or SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS)

  • Familiarity with DevOps practices and tools such as Azure DevOps

About Our Team:

The department is a diverse, interdisciplinary team that develops strategic operational concepts and approaches for the Z Facility and other Pulsed Power facilities, as well as for new experimental facilities. This work is accomplished through collaborations with operations, engineering, science, and program teams. Solutions address quality, efficiency, safety, and security that are well-aligned to achieving, and enabling, the science goals of the programs performing experiments at Z. Work scope includes the health of Z, the Z management system, IT infrastructure, communications, scheduling analysis, information flow, data systems, systems engineering, training systems, and control monitoring and data acquisition design support. Seamless integration of all aspects is a key element of the department’s efforts. This team is part of the Radiation, Electrical and High Energy Density (REHEDS) Research Foundation at Sandia.

Security Clearance:
