Are you passionate about developing high-performance computing software to address national computing needs in energy, climate, and national security? Our team is seeking a Computer Science Researcher with a real passion for researching and developing parallel algorithms and programming models to meet the challenges posed by next-generation high-performance computing systems and applications. As a valued member of our all-star team, you will collaborate with a team hardworking, multi-disciplinary researchers to explore state-of-the-art architectures and programming models in the dynamic field of high-performance computing.
The focus of this R&D position with Sandia’s Kokkos team is to provide a broad set of applications with algorithmic patterns and high-quality software (delivered through the Kokkos library) that will enable these applications to realize their full performance potential on exascale HPC architectures. This position offers the opportunity for motivated and hardworking researchers to be at the center of cross-domain collaborations among HPC application and library development; programming language standards evolution; and compiler, runtime, hardware R&D.
On any given day you may be called on to:
- Conceive and improve strategies for high-performance parallel algorithms
- Collaborate with colleagues across application-to-hardware domains
- Collaborate across national laboratories, universities, and HPC vendors
- Collaborate with application teams to introduce and develop parallel algorithms
- Develop and test high quality software
- Publish in journals and conferences, and present at national and international venues
- Help us define the future of high-performance computing
- Masters or Ph.D. in mathematics, computer science, or related engineering or science field plus a bachelor's in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM)
- Proven track record developing software in the C++ language, including the use of templates
- Experience with shared memory parallel programming (e.g., CUDA, OpenMP, OpenACC, “raw threads”)
- Experience with parallel algorithm research and software development for applications or mathematical libraries
- Technical publications in HPC conferences and journals, or released software used by applications (A publication list should be included as part of the resume.)
- PhD in mathematics, computer science, or related engineering or science field
- Communication and interpersonal skills for effectively working in multi-disciplinary teams of mathematicians, engineers, and scientists
- Experience contributing to large and long-lived applications or libraries utilizing software quality engineering practices, processes, and tools
- Experience utilizing high-concurrency architectures such as AMD/Intel/NVIDIA GPUs for thread-scalable parallel algorithms
- Experience with Sandia’s Kokkos library
- Experience with parallel numerical algorithms or parallel data structures
