Sandia National Laboratories R&D Computer Science - Full-Stack Software Developer for Simulation & Analysis (Experienced) in Albuquerque, New Mexico

Salary Range:

$99,700 - $196,100

We are looking for Computer Science professionals passionate about software development/engineering with a broad set of technical skills to take on problems across the full stack in areas including:

  • UI Development using Java, JavaFX, JavaScript, jQuery, React

  • Backend Developers to design and implement data processing algorithms, databases, and process controls, using Java, Python, C++, etc.

  • DevOps developers to design and implement modern development and platform environments to include Git, CI/CD, Containerization, Kubernetes, Ansible, and others.

  • Full Stack prototyping developers pathfinding new concepts to solve technology challenges that mitigate risk and provide future solutions

  • Platform development using virtualization (with a RHEL baseline), Ansible provisioning, general Linux system administration basics

  • Modeling/Simulation of the latest in decision tools and high fidelity models using HPC.

On any given day, the selected candidate may be called on to:

  • Participate in an Agile team to develop software systems that solve the most exciting modeling/simulation problems. This includes the development of high fidelity models and machine learning surrogates, using network compute servers or HPC resources as needed

  • Contribute collaboratively with architects, developers, technical leads, customers, and end users to collect requirements, design solutions, and deliver extensible software applications

  • Contribute to deeply rewarding missions through engagement with diverse computer science specialties and specialists in areas such as signal and image processing, physics, analytics, cloud computing, machine learning, modeling and simulation, service oriented architectures and microservices, big data management and visualization, and pattern recognition

  • Provide model and system-level expertise to users, programs, and partners

  • Develop proposals and lead funded efforts for innovative solutions, both for current challenges and emerging needs

Applicants will be interviewed and hired to support one or multiple teams within the 6377—Software Simulation and Analysis department.

This role has exciting growth opportunities and is an integral part of the successful delivery of our systems! Your position will also include a variety of interactions across Modern Systems (6370/6360) and the program, including collaboration with partner organizations and partner projects. In this role, there is significant opportunity for leadership development, and you will be given the opportunity to engage in leadership development activities both independently and as part of the larger team.

Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite.

Qualifications We Require:

  • Bachelor's and master’s degrees in Computer Science or other relevant STEM field; or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience

  • Five years’ experience in software design, engineering and development skills, including familiarity with modern software development practices and tools

  • Proven experience with object-oriented software development (e.g., C++, Java, and Python)

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-Clearance

Qualifications We Desire:

  • Knowledge and experience with implementation of the full software development process using Agile or Iterative methodologies such as Scrum and Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe)

  • Experience with cloud-based solutions (AWS, Azure, Kubernetes, etc.)

  • Self-directed, organized, and able to work independently as well as in a large team environment

  • Experience developing critical data processing and analysis systems

  • Demonstrated strong analytical and creative problem-solving skills

  • Outstanding verbal and written communication and presentation skills

  • Ability to work with various subject areas across multiple development sub-teams

  • Proven ability to prioritize multiple tasks and handle contending priorities

  • Strong focus on customer needs and can-do response to questions/requests with demonstrated outstanding follow through

  • Deep knowledge of the USNDS mission, including ground and flight systems

  • Current SCI clearance

About Our Team:

We perform research and development to advance flexible, extensible, and robust software applications for remote sensing system-level simulation as well as simulation-based analysis for test and verification all of which helps to transform data to knowledge enabling our customers to take action with confidence.

Our simulation influenced analysis for test and verification capability represents the technical evaluation and characterization of mission-level key performance parameters (KPPs) for operational remote sensing systems, in-the-queue updates to such, and hypothetical systems. Such remote sensing systems tend to be tremendously complex in terms of physical complexity, temporal complexity, and environmental complexity which all together translates into never ending challenges that must be tackled. Thus, we develop both deep and broad complex systems knowledge, expertise in test design to reporting, and utilization of numerous tools (yet not limited to simulators), techniques, and applications.
