What Your Job Will Be Like:
The Applied Nuclear Technologies department has a post-doctoral position open for a motivated experimentalist wishing to impact the field of radiation effects in devices. We have ongoing research in understanding how particle-induced ionization and atomic displacements impact microelectronic device performance in a variety of semiconductors. The successful candidate will work on radiation effects experiments on electronic components exposed to different particles such as neutrons, ions, and electrons and explore the science of defects in advanced semiconductor devices using and developing techniques such as Deep-Level Transient Spectroscopy (DLTS). This candidate will work in both office and laboratory environments, and in radiation and contamination areas.
We are looking for a PhD in Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Applied Physics, or Physics who loves setting up and executing complex in-situ experiments.
On any given day, you may be called on to:
Executing, hands-on experimental work
Proposal writing for research projects and facility access
Dissemination of research results in technical conferences and papers
Electrical circuit response modeling, circuit design, and programming for automation and analysis.
Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite.
Qualifications We Require:
A PhD in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a closely related field conferred within five years prior to employment
Experience with micro/nanofabrication
The ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-clearance
Qualifications We Desire:
Experience with laboratory testing, electronic instrumentation, and test operations
Experience publishing in reviewed journals
Experience in semiconductor device physics
Electrical characterization of microelectronic devices or thin films
Outstanding communication skills, a willingness to work in a collaborative team environment, and demonstrated interest in interdisciplinary research
Scientific programming for efficient data collection and analysis
Experience in radiation effects on semiconductor devices
About Our Team:
As part of the Radiation & Electrical Sciences Center, the Applied Nuclear Technologies Department explores, develops, and applies physics and engineering principles to many areas of nuclear and radiation technology. The Department is responsible for the Device Physics, Energetic Neutrons, and Transient Neutrons portion of the Sandia's Radiation Effects Sciences (RES) Program to explore radiation detection and characterization.
We operate and maintain a semiconductor devices laboratory which utilizes a variety of characterization techniques including DLTS to analyze native defects and radiation-induced defects in semiconductor devices and explore the damage mechanisms in devices exposed to different radiation environments.
Posting Duration:
This posting will be open for application submissions for a minimum of seven (7) calendar days, including the ‘posting date’. Sandia reserves the right to extend the posting date at any time.
Security Clearance:
Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q security clearance to start, or equivalent active security clearance with another U.S. government agency (e.g., DOD). Sandia is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants for employment need to be able to maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship. If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain a security clearance may be impacted.
Applicants offered employment with Sandia are subject to a federal background investigation to meet the requirements for access to classified information or matter if the duties of the position require a DOE security clearance. Substance abuse or illegal drug use, falsification of information, criminal activity, serious misconduct or other indicators of untrustworthiness can cause a clearance to be denied or terminated by DOE, resulting in the inability to perform the duties assigned and subsequent termination of employment.
EEO:
All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, disability, or veteran status and any other protected class under state or federal law.
NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs:
If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.
If you have a MedPED and you are selected for an on-site interview at Sandia National Laboratories, there may be additional steps necessary to ensure compliance with NNSA security requirements prior to the interview date.
Position Information:
This postdoctoral position is a temporary position for up to one year, which may be renewed at Sandia's discretion up to five additional years. The PhD must have been conferred within five years prior to employment.
Individuals in postdoctoral positions may bid on regular Sandia positions as internal candidates, and in some cases may be converted to regular career positions during their term if warranted by ongoing operational needs, continuing availability of funds, and satisfactory job performance.
Essential Functions:
If offered the position, you may be required to demonstrate your fitness to perform certain physical aspects of the position, including lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling.
