NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs:

If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.

If you have a MedPED and you are selected for an on-site interview at Sandia National Laboratories, there may be additional steps necessary to ensure compliance with NNSA security requirements prior to the interview date.

Salary Range:

$88,600 - $172,300

*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

What Your Job Will Be Like:

We are seeking an enthusiastic Quality Engineer to join a dynamic team to focus on NQA-1 implementation and execution. Are you passionate about improving processes and systems to ensure the highest quality standards? If so, you will want to apply for this unique opportunity.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

  • Define, implement, and operate basic elements of a quality assurance system

  • Ensure flow-down and implementation of customer and regulatory requirements

  • Provide quality assurance support for engineering and operational activities

  • Provide quality support to engineers in structure, system, and component (SSC) design, and development

  • Define, select, and apply various techniques such as supplier evaluation, qualification, and certification, and nonconformance management

  • Identify and apply various evaluations and tests to verify and validate the design of products and processes

  • Use statistical methods to monitor, identify trends and improve processes and performance

  • Identify, diagnose, and correct improper quality practices

  • Lead quality assurance, causal analysis, corrective action and prevention action analysis, and measurement related activities based on a defect prevention methodology implemented through Plan-Do-Check-Act

  • Interact with all levels of internal and external personnel, build effective working relationships, and build and lead diverse teams across the laboratories.

Qualifications We Require:

  • Bachelor’s degree in science, engineering, statistics, mathematics or relevant field, or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience

  • Five years of relevant experience

  • Experience implementing NQA-1

  • Ability to acquire and maintain a DOE Q clearance

Qualifications We Desire:

  • Experience in the qualification of software

  • Experience in flow-down of requirements, procurement, commercial grade dedication, configuration management

  • Experience applying Quality Tools (e.g., Root Cause Analysis, Statistics, Lean methodology, Six Sigma)

  • Knowledge of 10CFR830 A, Applicable DOE orders (e.g., 414.1D, 422.1, 232.2A, 426.2, 433.1B, etc.), ISO 9001, NQA-1 2017, and NAP401

  • Experience supporting nuclear and/or radiological operations

Organization 1380, Nuclear Facilities and Applied Technologies (TA-V), operates three unique nuclear facilities supporting the mission of Sandia National Laboratories and the nation's interest. These facilities include the Annular Core Research Reactor (ACRR), the Sandia Pulsed Reactor (SPR), and the Auxiliary Hot Cell Facility (AHCF). It also operates radiological facilities such as the Gamma Irradiation Facility (GIF), the Low Dose Rate Irradiation Facility (LDRIF) and the Radiation Metrology Lab (RML).

The Nuclear Quality and Requirements Department (Organization 1382) supports the operation of the Nuclear Facilities and Applied Technologies (TA-V) organization by providing nuclear quality assurance, training, information management, and requirements accountability to ensure fulfillment of 10CFR830, Nuclear Safety Management, Quality Assurance.

Security Clearance:
