Sandia National Laboratories Network and Infrastructure Support Technologist (Experienced) in Albuquerque, New Mexico

Organization 5621, Cyber Resilience R&D in the Cyber-Physical Mission group, is seeking an experienced, motivated, and hardworking technologist to join our energetic and multidisciplinary team supporting programs addressing national security challenges related to defense of non-traditional cyber systems, development of innovative cyber solutions, and identification of system vulnerabilities and threats. As part of our team, you will engage with scientists and engineers in work across a broad technology spectrum spanning cyber-physical, embedded, mobile, IoT, and large-scale, inter-connected networks. You will be responsible for the configuration, maintenance, and operation of experimental network, computing, and lab infrastructure by supporting a variety of functions:

  • Configure and maintain managed switch and router infrastructure for a variety of physical and virtual LAN and WAN systems

  • Support instrumentation and data collection within research, development, test, and evaluation (RDT&E) environments

  • Assist with operation and maintenance of server, desktop, and embedded computing infrastructure

  • Perform sys admin and dev ops roles as required for provisioning and troubleshooting computing systems

  • Maintain laboratory space, including coordination of lab activities, alignment to environment safety and health policies, design and implementation of lab upgrades, etc.

  • Support procurement of devices, equipment, components, and software needed to support staff and RDT&E activities

  • Recommend improvements to increase technical efficiency and effectiveness with the group

  • Work with scientists and engineers to help establish task and project requirements, including test specifications and procedures


  • An associate's degree in a computer or network related field plus 8 years experience; or a Bachelor's degree plus 3 years experience; or equivalent experience and/or achievements that demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of the job

  • Strong networking skills, including network design, implementation, and administration, including the ability to configure and provision managed networking equipment (Cisco, Juniper, etc.)

  • Familiar with network security and LAN/WAN protocols

  • Ability to configure and secure various computer operating systems, such as Windows, Linux, MacOS, and related software

  • Ability to acquire a DOE Q clearance and SCI clearance, which may require a polygraph


Experience with the following:

  • Sandia security and ES&H policies

  • OT/ICS/SCADA devices, systems, and protocols

  • Designing and supporting test and evaluation experiments, including instrumentation and data collection

  • Virtualization and container technology

  • Software defined networking

  • One or more of the following: Database and storage systems, webservers, application servers, and IAM services

Sandia’s cybersecurity specialists are key contributors in addressing the country’s most pressing national security needs. The mission of the Information Operations Center is to assess, design, implement and influence the development of national security-related information systems and technologies in support of Defense and Intelligence customers and their national security missions.     Security Clearance:

Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants for employment need to be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance and SCI access, both of which require US citizenship. SCI access may also require a polygraph examination. If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain these levels of access may be impacted.
