NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs:

If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.

If you have a MedPED and you are selected for an on-site interview at Sandia National Laboratories, there may be additional steps necessary to ensure compliance with NNSA security requirements prior to the interview date.

Salary Range:

$138,600 - $235,500

*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

We are seeking a dynamic R&D manager to lead the Space Control Applications department and help us deliver transformational space flight mission solutions. Our ideal candidate is a leader who will build new relationships within the DoD and IC communities, identify and drive strategic vision, and convert vision into tactical actions that lead to success with existing projects and new business opportunities. On any given day, you may be called to:

  • Lead the organization in developing technologies for space systems and architectures and perform research for future systems and architectures.

  • Develop a deep understanding of the business, and leverage insights to engage in customer inquiries, qualify leads, and conduct business development discussions.

  • Collaborate with the business development team, Space Mission Engineering program manager, and Space Mission Program director in their sales efforts including customer onsite visits, offsite meetings, conferences, and other sales events.

  • Promote excellence by managing and coordinating departmental work, overall program and project plans, budgets, structures, schedules, and staffing requirements.

  • Ensure that customer needs are satisfied through the creation of trust-based relationships.

  • Coordinate employee recruitment, selection, professional development, mentoring, and performance management, consistent with the mission of the organization.

  • Apply organization knowledge and experience to independently judge work quality, performance, and alignment of results with customer expectations.

  • Work collaboratively with other managers to guide strategy and capability development.

    Travel at least once a month and a significant presence on Sandia property should be anticipated to support these objectives.

Qualifications We Require:

  • Advanced degree (MS or PhD) in computer science, engineering, physics, mathematics, or related STEM field plus 5 years of relevant experience

  • Three years of experience in technical project leadership and/or technical project management

  • Experience in program development to include identifying, developing, and realizing new project opportunities

  • Technical expertise with one or more of the following:

  • Remote sensing technologies

  • Strategically managing space electronics hardware advancement

  • Managing space-based systems

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q and SCI clearance, or equivalent, which may require a polygraph test

Qualifications We Desire:

  • Experience with the DoD and IC Space communities

  • Demonstrated interest and success in recruiting, hiring and developing/mentoring new personnel

  • Demonstrated business and political competence while interacting with customers

  • Experience executing and leading SCI and/or Special Access Program (SAP) level projects

  • Experience with developing and implementing strategic goals and objectives

  • Demonstrated ability to deliver results and effectively lead/guide hard-working, experienced technical staff

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Experience developing and presenting proposals to internal and external partners

  • Proven ability to build trusting relationships

  • Active DOE Q and SCI clearance, or equivalent

Security Clearance:

Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications.
